And as soon as you succeeded you might find this helpful as well: De-Mystifying the Conf.ini
Just a quick answer - do not install your IL-2 into C:\Program Files (x86) - choose something else like C:\IL-2 1946 or better on a D:, E: etc. drive...
and then make a complete copy of it for installing all the mods you like. (Just copy and past the hole IL-2 directory where you like - but C:\Program Files (x86))
Do not touch or use the original IL-2 for mods!
It might helps you later a lot and your nerves!
