Philippines v2.0 texts.txt UPDATE 11.2008

DaBomb746 Wrote:Well, perhaps I'm doing something wrong in the installation.

Let's start from the beggining. At first, I download the map. Then, when it is done, I go to the desktop and I click on the auto install. It installs a bunch of things such as the load.ini and such, and then it tells me I'm done. I go into IL2, load up the FMB, click on the name of the map under Load Map, and it tells me some error code. I check, and it is fine.

Am I installing it differently? Is there more to it than that?

Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, it's just that I'm frustrated with this whole thing. I downloaded the Darwin map, it's fine, it can load, but it won't save missions, even though I can play the Darwin campaigns for both US and IJN sides. And then, with the other maps - they just don't work!
So, again, I'm sorry

I understand it is frustrating... it is also for me trying to help someone without being in front of his computer...

You tell about an error message... what does it say exactly ?

I will also download official files... made by Fly_zo as for any else official download... just to see if I'm misunderstanding something...

Well, I think Hawkeye is mostly "Oeil de Faucon" in French

Thanks for support.

Excellent job making this map delvpier.
But 4 me it is almost unplayable due to lag.
I have tried both versions, 2.0 and 1.1.
No other big maps like The Slot, Italy, beta Lower Burma, or CAN_Channel which also have large actors.static files give me this problem.

Sorry, with my poor English, I don't understand "lag"... what does it mean ? a loss of FPS ?

Yes, a loss of FPS.

Well, on basic map, I used templates to fill cities and maybe I put too many Palm Trees on those templates... so repeated ten or twelve times for Manilla, it gives a lot of Palms... Palms are probably the most consuming FPS objects... that's the reason why I made Remove Objects Tool... I'll try to offer a lite actors.static with Palms Trees half or third numbered...

If you use Dixiecapt Campaign, he added a lot of Palm Trees on his sceneries, so...

Of course, this is also related to your computer power, on mine, I have no loss of FPS with basic map but some with Dixiecapt Campaign...

The only place I placed alot of Trees was on the Palawan Island Airbase.

I have a rather poor computer, and I'm not having any troubles, it just takes a while to load missions.

I will cut out some of the trees on Palawan though....

P.S. look for the campaign soon!

well, i suppose I could download it again and see what happens. What's there to lose?

EDIT the error code on the screen when I try to load it ingame is:

World.land().LoadMap()error: Java.lang.Runtime Exception.Landscape 'dlv_Philippines/load.ini' loading error.

?????
I have no clue with computers

I know this maybe too late, but when I was in Leyte Gulf in April of this year, I took some pictures.

I was hoping that someone could use these in their maps, and since this is the Philippines map thread, here you go. One thing that you may notice about this part of the world (Singapore and the Malay peninsula too) is that there isn't in fact palm trees everywhere as far as the eye can see.

Going through the Philippines, and having taken liberty in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, I found that the only places that had palm trees were sugar farms and date orchards. Otherwise palm trees were decorative along city streets and and the island in between opposing lanes on the freeway.

While palms occur frequently on Atolls and in the middle and eastern pacific, in the Phillipine Archipaeligo the norm is lush deciduous jungle vegetation right up to the waters edge. Beaches excluded of course. It also seems that the red clay, and the green color pretty well matches the colors that come out with the Burma map. (What a surprise! It's north of the Malay Peninsula).

I intend not to crticize anybody's work, only to offer what I have found in an attempt to better the final product. Great Map! Thank you for the effort.

One last suggestion. Perhaps the Map could also have "online sections" offered. Like the Leyte Area 120kmx120km, or Manilia and Clark Field 100kmx100km for example...

I have finally done it! I have installed the Philippines map!

I am such a dodo, because the reason that it wasn't installing... was because I didn't have the unified installer! Now, I downloaded the Unified Installer after I read "Compatible with the UI" (which took forever  ) and I then downloaded the Philippines map, and it loaded! But it took it a minute to get it. I hope that's normal.

Nice update. May I suggest that the new text be incorporated into the main download, with a version step-up to 2.1?
