QMBPlus

March_Hare009 Wrote:Hi all,

Okay, so I downloaded QMB+ yesterday and installed it per the instructions. I started the game and everything seemed to work great. I flew a strike mission on the Slovakia map and all seemed well. Today I go to start the game and . . . nothing happens. I don't even get a loadup screen. My computer just sits there mocking me. :? Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Any and all help is appreciated. ~S

Hi,
there are 1000+ users of QMB+ and there is no report about any serious problem. So it is probably something else, also have in mind that we are here using hacks to mod the game so various problems can be expected.

Could be that there is no problems at all, my PC is relatively poor and when I first start the game it takes couple of minutes for game to start loading and than it takes another 5-10 minutes for game to load.

Try to disable all mods except basic one and see what will happen, if games load than turn on mods one by one and check if there are some problems.

I was getting the missing target error as well, but on every map. In my case, I had put the change that goes into the "gui" in the wrong file.

Nice mod. Thanks

Thank you FC for this excellent mod!

Everything's working great, except I'm running into some strange trouble when making my own missions.

I made a "RedStrike" mission for Norway (attack the Tirpitz) and it works great. However, when I made the same mission for blue it did not work. I've been very careful about naming the missions and setting them up correctly.

Today I made a RedStrike mission for Burma, and everything worked perfect at first. Then, after going in and adding some tents and extra artillery into the same mission, saving it, and trying again, this same "Red Strike" mission will not work. Both these maps already have "RedNone" missions, so I don't think it can be related to that. Am I missing something?

At any rate--thank you again for QMBplus--it's what I've been wanting to see for a long time...

I don't know why is it too difficult to add new kt_channel map in qmb...I follow all the instructions ..

1. In FMB, I created the missions Kt_channelRedNone00.mis and Kt_channelBlueNone00.mis, both using Kt_channel map. Using Notepad to open these missions, there is written:
MAP Kt_channel/load.ini
2. Both missions were saved in Missions/Quick/ folder and this address was added to the end of filelist.txt:
Missions/Quick/OdessaRedNone00.mis
Missions/Quick/OdessaRedScramble00.mis ( but I have the new wrapper...)
3. To the end of conf.ini file, the following text was added:
[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Kt_channel

But in qmb...there isn't.. Cry

OK I figured out my problem. I had assigned non-German and non-Russian squadron designations to my flights to see if it made a difference. It did--nothing worked at all! It only seems to work when I choose the generic RUSSIAN and GERMAN options. Not a problem at all and now everything works great.

I can't get the whole add on to work at all. The instructions included fall very short of being clear.
I've given up on using it, unless the cavalry wants to arrive and outline in adequate step by step detail how to install this.

No new maps or changes of any kind appear available in the QMB screen, nor does the screen appear different as in the illustrations.

If I sound bitter, it is because I have spent the last 2 hours pulling my hair out trying to get this to work, and I'm more than a bit frustrated. Cry

OK Fritzfix...

1) Make sure you've installed the "WRAPPER.DLL" mod first. This will create a folder called "MODS" within your Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 root directory.

2) Now set up the folders you're going to need. First of all, create a new folder called "QMBPlus" within your "MODS" folder.

3) Create a folder called "Quick" within the "Missions" folder of your 1946 root directory. It's possible you already have a file called "Quick" in there. If so, don't try to create a new one.

4) Next, since you've already tried to install this, I want you to be sure to do something. In your root 1946 directory, there is a folder called "Files." Click into it. There you MAY find a folder called "Missions." Click into it. There you MAY find a folder called "Quick." Click into it. If there are any files within this "Quick" folder, just DELETE THEM ALL. If you found no such "Missions" or "Quick" folders within your "Files" folder, don't worry about it.

5) Now, unzip FC's QMB plus zip file somewhere OUTSIDE of your 1946 root directory, in order to avoid confusion.

6) You will now have a regular folder called "QMB Plus 1.1" Click into it. Inside it, you will see a particular file called "gui_ru." Let's deal with this one first.

7) Open this "gui_ru" file with NOTEPAD. There you will find lines of text as follows:

# ---QMBPlus 1.1

quick.Scramble Scramble
quick.Strike Strike
quick.VER: QMBPlus
quick.POS: Diff.

You must highlight and copy ALL of this text into another "gui_ru" file which you will find in the following location: 1946 Root Directory>Files>i18n>gui_ru. Remember that you must open this "gui_ru" file with notepad before you can copy the text in at the bottom of it. Make sure to SAVE these changes in the notepad file before you click out of it.

8) Now return to your unzipped "QMB Plus 1.1" folder. Inside it you will find a "Files" folder. Click into it. There you will find a folder called "Missions," plus eleven other files with complicated names. We will deal with these eleven files first.

9) Without highlighting the "Files" folder, highlight the eleven files with complex names and copy them into the "QMBPlus" folder you created in the following location:
1946 root directory>MODS>QMBPlus. You're done with that step.

10) Now return to your "QMB Plus 1.1" folder. Click into it and find the "Missions" folder. Click into the "Missions" folder and you will find a folder called "Quick." Click into it and you will find a bunch of mission files with names like "Ardennes_WBlueAirbase00" and etcetera.

11) Highlight ALL of those mission folders and copy them into the "Quick" folder which you will find in the following location:
1946 root directory>Missions>Quick.

12) Now return to your 1946 root directory. There you will find the "conf" file. Open the "conf" file with notepad. Scroll down to the bottom of the document and carefully type in the following lines:

[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Bessarabia

Make sure to save this in notepad before you click out of it.

Now you should have everything where it needs to go.

If you click on a certain type of mission in your QMB and get the "Wrong Target Selected," it just means there are no missions made for that particular map yet. You must either wait for new mission packs to come out, or learn to make missions yourself, which is really not that hard once you do one. You'll find directions on how to make missions in the FMB and also how to add more maps in previous posts in this thread.

Good luck!

Eldon,

Very well written instructions, and many thanks. The Mod staff should sticky post your outline for those who are having trouble with this install, but too embarrassed to ask for help.

Cheers my friend.

Eldon45, thanks for the nice tutorial, however a small issue remains... I can't find the Conf file in main root 1946 folder. I have just the conf.ini. :?

Also the gui_ru file from I18n folder is called gui_ru.properties but... is minor Smile .

I have no old Files folder, all my mods are in MODS folder.

later edit.

I realized that you were talking about the conf.ini file Smile .

Side note, hiding file extensions for known file types can be dangerous Wink . I wish Windows had the same rename algorithm as Ubuntu for example has, that when you hit F2 (or chose rename) it highlights first the name of the file leaving the extension untouched, though you may choose in the same action to rename the file and change the extension also.

Can someone please post from their conf.ini file what maps we should have in there and what it should look like. These are all that I see in my QMB. I don't see any of the original one that should be there. thanks
