I may get in trouble for asking ,...but... about the P51 FM

I agree. I cannot understand why an aircraft with a bubble canopy, extra 2 guns and ammo, plus extra icing can still go faster that the B/C, but the Mustang CM (C Mustang III RAF) Is faster than the B,C and D. So maybe that makes up for that. But like you said, marginally faster

In IL-2 B/C P-51s are simulated with the V-1650-3 engine in mind, not the V-1650-7 of the P-51Ds.

True statement about the V-1650-3 vs the V-1650-7. However, the power difference was not that great and the B/C was still faster, even with the earlier engine. If properly done, the B/C should be at least as fast as the D model, certainly not slower. As mentioned by Lt.Wolfe, there are the additional factors of the drag from the bubble canopy and the extra weight of the D model. (Although drag would have a much greater effect than weight on top speed.)

I've never really flown the Mustang III version. Is it true that it's the fastest ? I always assumed that they simply re-labeled the B/C version and that the performance would be the same. Very interesting, I'll have to give it a try.

Mustang MK III is using 150 octan fuel and allow higher boost rate ( +25) then standart P-51 B/C version. So MK III was the fastes but only up to full throttle hight.

There are also P-51 D version which also use 150 octan fuel and +25 Boost rate but actually we dont have such moddel in Il2 1946. These higher boost P-51 D was faster up to full throttle hight then standart P-51 D version. P-51 D +25 lbs should be more equal for Fw190 D-9 ( 44 and 45) in game then standart P-51 D. Fw190 D-9 in game have the best possible boost rate from all D-9 versions and there are the fastest D-9 versions.

So why we shouldn't have P-51D with +25 lbs boost rate?
