I was wondering how one gets fighter planes to escort bombers? Aside from setting up identical waypoints for both flights that is. Which is usually pointless anyway since how can anyone anticipate what will happen during a mission?

I suppose it has something to do with the 'set' command for waypoints, but I still haven't gotten it to work like I think it should.

If I make one 'set' command, the escorts will simply stay behind, circling the first waypoint, and if I make duplicate flightpaths, with all the waypoints connected by a 'set' command, the escorts will stay on their flightpath, even if the primary plane deviates radically.

That doesn't seem to me to be the purpose of having an escort if they go their own way no matter what.

So, obviously I'm doing something wrong. but what?

Use the "Set" target option in the waypoint box. Click the button and connect the fighters to the bombers (a green line will appear that connects the two. The fighters will then fly a pattern arround the bombers throughout the flight.

That's exactly what I've been trying in many missions, but for some reason all that happens is that the 'set' planes don't follow the aircraft they are attached to. They simply keep flying around the waypoint where the 'set' command was given.

I've tried many variants, but nothing ever seems to work. And it's not due to a mod or anything, since I've had this from the very start, before I started installing mods on the game.

I'd long given up on trying to get it to wor, but seeing it in the mission posted here got me trying again - without results.

It's odd. With a downloaded mission it works, but not with one I make myself.

Agracier, you still have to make a multi-waypoint flightpath for the fighters. The idea is that you click "target set" and connect them to the bombers at EVERY WAYPOINT, not just one. You plot similar flightpaths for the fighters and bombers until the point where you want to make the fighters break off and go their own way.

Remember to vertically space the fighters and bomber flights a little. Otherwise, you will have many mid-air collisions.
