[MOD] Weapon Hit Effects V1.2 (mg effects)
#31

Hi Maven,
I 'm sticky with your mod, I really like the way you model bullet effects.
I do appreciate you indicates what every data means , this help me a lot trying to tune them finely in order to fit my old rig, and also to correspond to what I prefer !!

May I ask you what means "RBGA" in the color line ??

Refering to my poor English  , I thought bullets hits were named "Sparks" but everybody call them "Pluff". don't they ?
So what effect refers to "Spark" and "SparkP"

Thanks again

I actually started off with more of a white/grey color. It was supposed to resemble fine debris. It's hard to see on the real gun camera footage what the exact color was most of the time. It's not hard to change, so just let me know what the consensus is for the new color and I will post a new version. I can also make it a little more transparent; please share your thoughts.

Awesome effects you've worked up there m8. The effort you guys have put into modding IL2 is fantastic and has blown the dust off of many shelved 1946 boxes. I'm one of those who has rediscovered IL-2 because of the work you put into making it - IMHO - so much better.

Every rose has it's thorn and unfortunatly, strange things are happening when using the hit effects mod.

When my 50's land a hit on a target aircraft, my screen blanks to black for a second and the game stops in it's tracks for 3-5 seconds. During those 3-5 seconds I see everything in low res (640x480 or something like that) and I get incremental flickering of the screen. It's as if I had paused the game, changed the resolution on the fly and beaten my monitor.

Once things start moving again, the resolution returns to normal (1152 x 864) and my aircraft has drifted away from where I was when I originally fired my shots.

I disabled all other effect mods (using -) to make sure it's not a conflict with another mod elsewhere that may be using a same file. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to work this out myself. Other effect Mods have worked together without a hassel (for example - those that SG2_Wasy uses in his special effects pack (SEP)).

FYI - I'm using an ATI card. Buffy once had a problem with his v5 of the Flak Mod. It seems that ATI cards can't handle textures at 36x36 resolutions. Tuning it down to 32x32 cured the black flickering effect (I had it as well). Maybe my ATI's problem with your hit effects is along the same line?

Smile Smile If someone can...it will be great if the 30 mm effects are like the original hits effects for 20mm....maybe they are more relistic....is it possible?

Hi

In case anyone else is having the same problem that I mentioned two posts up, the culprit was the 12_smoke.tga file in the ..\MODS\HitEffectMod_v1.2_Mvn\3do\Effects\Textures\ folder. I replaced it with another smoke texture and everything works now as it should - without hangups or flickering.

I have no idea why my ATI card (x1950) reacted allergically to the original texture.

Hope this helps until Maven gets a chance to look into it.

Gromic can you post your file that you used to replace it with. I'd like to try it out and see if it makes a difference in my game. thanks

Hi Badger,

I can't upload that texture file because I'm not registered with any upload service. I can tell you which file I used to fix the problem temporarily and you can download it at leisure.

Th!rdeye has a Weapon Hit Effects Mod that does the same thing as Maven's mod except that it tunes the eye candy with results from cannon hits. I used his CannonHitSmoke.tga texture located in the folder ..\MODS\3rdeye_Weapon_Effects\3DO\Effects\Textures\.

My ATI card has no issues with Th!rdeye's texture file and Maven's Mod works wonderfully without spazzing out my screen.

Copy that texture into Mavens texture folder (see three posts above) and rename it 12_smoke.tga. Don't forget to back up the original. The problem lies not with Mavens texture but with ATI's rendering engine.

Disclaimer: this is only a temporary fix until Maven has a chance to investigate the problem with his texture file and an apparent incompatibility issue with ATI cards. My intention is not to modify someone elses work. It is only a work around for a playability issue. Please replace the subsituted file as soon as the original author has acknowledged the problem and offered a (ATI) fixed version.

I thank both Th!rdeye and Maven for the outstanding works of art they have created and the rest of the community for making IL2 so much more interesting. You guys put the proverbial icing on the cake.

Gromic

Same with me Gromic (Atix1850, Cat 7.11).

Flickering from black to white background.

Still, can you tell how to fix Buffy's Flak mod/ opint to a safe version of it? There seems to be only one single *.tga file inside that mod, resolving at 128x128, so a decent transfer of your replacing hint won't do there.

Thx, in advance.

Hi

Sure thing Badger. I hope this gets it sorted for you. Let me know.

Pongie, Buffy released a alternative texture file on page 7 of his mod thread. Check the installation instructions in Buffy's thread. That cleared the problem with the flickering for me.

Here is the download link for Buffy's ATI texture fix for the flak mod.

Sorry, can't do more at the moment since I'm typing this from work.
