REALISM RATING F-51D-30NA by UP2.0
#31

In order to compare we have to name the source. This has been done over the years at UBI showing in game performance to the real world values. The same applies to other sims no matter the venue as long as real world data is available.

Take for instance a tank simulation and you have two tanks, one a Jagdpanther (sloped front based on the Panther chassis) the other a T34. One would have to compare otherwise what's the sense in have a simulation.

Reports can be used for two purposes the first is to verify what one is doing is correct the other to use it to rub peoples nose in it. I always prefer the first option, I never use the second. However, many people as we have noticed use the second option.

Another reason for this report is to document how FM's perform per pack. Why? The answer is simple, if any migration is to occur you have to document first then decide.

As I had noted previously, we have had these reports for a while and we (our team) will be using the first option to verify what one is doing is correct to hone the FM and performances if required.

On the projects front, much is still being done.

Interesting thread. Thanks to all involved - looks like a lot of data crunching there and decent work on translating that to graphs Smile

I wanted to see I understood the comparison data- did I read correctly that you are comparing the P-51DNA in-game to IRL P-51B? If this is correct, I ask why didn't you compare it to P-51D data? I think I remember reading it wasn't available(?- please correct me if wrong).

I did a quick look just to see how much of a difference there could be between IRL P-51B and P-51D here just to get some cursory impression http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/P-51_Variants.html Not exactly scholarly data, but enough for one to form a general impression as to what any differences might be.

So in short (and I am not bust'n your chops here,) I was curious about the B data being used.

Thanks for working on this for the community and I look forward to your reply.

Cheers

Correct..

There is no real life TSPA or ROC data for a F-51D-30 running at 75" (that I can find anyway)

There is one test on a MUSTANG IV, which is an early D version sent to the Brits, but it only consists of TSPA data up to 12kft

So if we want to know what a D does at 75" we have to look at what the B did at 75" and try to account for the differences

Both the simulated D and the real B both have the same engines

The B ROC data was adjusted for the difference in weight between the real B and the simulated D
The B TSPA data was adjusted for the difference in the drag between the real B and the simulated D

With all that said, in light of everyone having issues with the letter B vs. D I am currently working on taking some P-51D data done at 67" and adjusting the data to make it 75" data. Than it will be a D to D comparison. Not sure it will work, but it is something I am currently trying to do.

But my guess is after doing that I will just end up attracting a different type of nay sayer crowd

With that said

Any nub can point out difference

Takes something more than a nub to account for the differences Wink

That is not directed specifically at you by the way

Just the general take on the crowd thus far

Some of the post are kind of funny really

As if they thought I needed to be told a B is different than a D

Too funny!

Again, not you, you actually 'ask'

I'm referring to some of the posts where they felt the need to point that out to me.

As if after all that work they expected me to slap my forehead and go GEEEEEE Your right! Wink

LOL- yeah but I think you made your point for them being similar enough for point of comparison in some meaningful sense.

Looks like it was quite a project to put together. Thanks for the explanation, and your work.

UPDATED PG01

I replaced the real P-51B with 'calculated' P-51D data

By calculated I mean I adjusted real 67" P-51D to 75" data

I am currently working on the write up that will explane how the data was adjusted, once it is done Ill include the link on page one
