Hsfx or UltraPack?
#31

I have Ultra Pack 2.01
it works good and running HSFX works fine when activated
I run SAS Mods in my MODS folder I created and can deactivate the MODS folder whenever I like.

One install,
two versions and so many extra MODS that I could not begin too list them all
all in one installation of IL-2

Multiple installs are almost not needed anymore,
except for very advanced users who like to play with there files more than the actual game

I use to run many installs ete,
and now find I don't even use HSFX anymore and am only UP 2.01 Online
Off line I activate my MODS folder for a extremely nice full blown Modded game

IMO UP 2.01 is one of the better way's of Modding IL-2 if you want to just mod it and forget it
leaving the opportunity to add individual Mods to an already great compilation of Mods

Of course.... this is only IMHO

Actully no I don't know that..

In that looking at the the 'title' i.e.

Hsfx or UltraPack..

Those are both 'packs' not individual mods..

Which led me to belive he is interested in deciding which 'pack' to use..

And looking at the orginal question by the orginal poster, i.e.

"What do I need to download? HSFX or UltraPack? "

Which also led me to belive he is interested in deciding which 'pack' to use..

Sorry if that was not the case

KG64_Cnopicilin Wrote:And of course I meant SAS mod activator with SAS install.
Did ya?

Sorry I left my crystal ball at home today! Wink

Either way SAS is not a 'pack'

Nail on the head my friend!! the simplicity of adding and taking away mods is a quick selling point for me, I am not the most tech savvy guy to start with, and the UP pack, if you pay attention to the install instructions is way easy to install. All the new mods coming out are easy installed, and at SAS they update buttons regularly to keep in step with all the great craft that comes out. The maps are amazing!! With all the tweaking of eye candy in UP, I think the graphics almost would go toe to toe with the new game thats coming out one of these days, with minimal frame rate drop ( I have my settings to perfect and don't get one stutter)!!
has a direct control to switch to HSFX for those groovy SEOW online campaigns:

Plus: EXE enablers to help boost game play graphics for all types machines, old and new:

Well, I must give a thanks to everyone here for working to present information, viewpoint, and opinions in a way that allows me to keep this topic alive.

This is a big improvement over some of the past topics and much appreciated by everyone reading this.

So even though UP 'includes' HSFX you still have a seperate stand alone install of HSFX?

If so..

Why?

I thought it was simple as pie to run HSFX from UP?

Me personally I have every version of UP and HSFX insalled on my PC..

But that is for FM testing purposes..

What is the 'reason' you don't use the HSFX within UP?

PS you said 4 installs but only listed 2, what are the other 2?

Other two are: One UI 1.2 one mega old custom install....

I have both HSFX and UP for future proof. I use both, but UP more at the moment, but really I await update patches (e.g HSFX 4.2) for me to test etc and decide which I will use as my main install Big Grin

I had installed 4.1 before UP and then wanted to test UP and decided on that as I could get the .303 tracer mod to work. That's it really. If I find a way to use it in HSFX then I'll use my install that works best for me.

I don't focus on the flight-models really though as that part of the game doesn't bother me so much. But as I said before; each to his own Big Grin

That brings up a good question..

What version of HSFX does UP include? 4.0, 4.1, 4.11?

And if 4.0 how would you apply say the 4.1 or 4.11 patch to it?

What is this .303 tracer mod?

Got link?

Roger that!

As you know it is one of the most imporntant things to me..

Being a old school simmer who cut his teeth on black wire frame planes with PC speaker sound some 20+ years ago I got into flight sims before anyone knew what 'eye candy' was..

So we tended to focus on the flight modling performance (simulation of the plane) in that is all we really had to focus on..

Old habits I guess! Wink

Hey,

What's really going to add to the mix is the release of IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 v4.10m from Team Daidalos. We will see HSFX and UP ingest it and release their new compilations based on it, along with the lastest tested (hopefully) mods.

This is only right around the corner. I heard through the grape vine a few days ago that the 4.10 is almost ready. We could see its publication any day now.

ACE-OF-ACES, this will change much of the relevancy of your past information and you will no doubt have a new round of FM testing, correct?

I have a feeling that much of the content which you felt was on topic in the past will soon become off-topic information in the light of the next series of releases, wouldn't you think?

The question of HSFX or UltraPack will have new answers in the near future. Tongue

With 4.10m with the Zuti mod- Will we even need mods?
Just asking so no flames here now.

I'd say that 4.10 still won't have all the goodies we have now, it was like when 4.09 came out, in all honesty, if it weren't for UP or HSFX I would have been very dissapointed

Depends..

Assuming 4.10 uses the same FM data file structure than the mod makers will not have to update thier FM data files to match the new structure..

Which means we will still have the case where UltraPack changed Lt. Wolf's FMs..

And just to be crystal..

That is NOT the only FM UltraPack made changes to..

UltraPack made changes to dozens of HSFX FMs and EMDs

I forget the count monguse had but there was a spread sheet on all the HSFX FMs/EDMs that UltraPack made changes to and it did not fit on one page..

Some were minor changes.. only 5% others were changed 100%

Keep in mind that this 'data' is what gets fed into the 6DOF flight model..

It is this 'data' that defines the planes performance..

For the most part the math of the 6DOF does not change from plane to plane just the 'data' fed to it..

Now if they made any changes to the math of the 6DOF flight model that will affect the perfomance too..

But it will affect all the planes the same..

I have only begun to test all the planes they made changes too..

Some preform better and some preform worse than the orginal HSFX FMs..

Once I am done it will be easy to see if there was any blue red bias..

But as it stands now it just looks like unfounded random changes made to all types on all sides

Not from what I have been hearing threw the grape vine! Wink

Long story short..

If you want the P-51 and Fw190A2 mods with BETTER performance than you want HSFX..

In that UltraPack edited the FM to reduced the performance of these two planes in thier pack..

That is to say if your flying one of the new P-51s in a server that allows mods (both HSFX and UltraPAck) and your using HSFX..

Your HSFX P-51 will performe beter (faster, climb better, etc) than those flying the same P-51 and using UltraPack..

There is also the changes to the EMD they made that some say gave the P-51 more of a glass jaw..

That is to say is easier to damage in UltraPack than HSFX..

But I have not come up with a way to test that yet to put some numbers too it, it is just based on the experance of the pilots who have flown both versions

Sorry, I don't have a link to the .303 tracer mod. It was included in one of the spit installs (I think the mark XV...if there is one) but otherwise it was never posted Wink
