Map Modifying Discussion - History (Read Only)

What entries are you using in all.ini and filelist.ini?

I'm beginning to wonder if there isnt a map size limit in the game. The Slot map I made is HUGE in comparison with all other maps in this game, and despite my breakthrough with the Aleutians map I made, I cant get the Slot to work in FMB.

I will try a smaller portion of map and see if it loads.

turns out that when I was saving with GIMP to tga, it was using compression to create the file. I turned off compression, as well as getting rid of all the blurries and now it works. Since the Aleutians are far up north, I will need textures a la Norway to map the textures.

I also succeeded in removing the water tiling entry in load.ini, so now the Aleutians map only concentrates on the portion where the islands are. I'm basically using this map as a test bed for the Slot.

... try to make it on finsgulf as template ( start map) so you are sure game handles the size of map

you have missed entry for map_c.tga_table in your filelist.txt m8 :wink:

Finland is a tad smaller than New Guinea.

Just experimenting with the Ardennes small map.
I'm using Photoshop Elements for editing Map_c.tga
Seems to work fine
I've been in and out of FMB with different map revisions about 4 times with no problems.
The Air Brush tool seems to be best for producing soft edges to lakes and rivers.
Just pick the river colour and spray away.

Are we still stuck to existing map sizes or is it possible to enlarge the map images in 32px increments?
It would be nice to be able to expand the Ardennes gradually rather than go straight to the big version.
Probably more manageable too.

I havent tried to go bigger in increments but right now the largest map you can make is the size of New Guinea, which is 440x250km. I will experiment later to see how far this can be expanded, if it can at all.

I just tried a map size of 400x400km and its a no-go.

I have no idea, but if you try a 400X400Km map maybe you must have also map_R and map_F changed accordingly in size? (I can't find any map_R in my map folders yet there's an entry map_R in each load.ini) Or map_R and F doesn't matter?

Based on the Singapore map template this is the area I intend to begin work on.

This provides coverage for all of the Battle of France - Phase 1, May 1940
Dunkirk scenarios, including cross channel RAF support.
Dieppe Raid scenario
Ardennes - "Battle of the Bulge"
Maybe if I shifted it north a bit I would pick up Arnhem? - Operation Market Garden
-- but want to keep a good coverage around Sedan for the Meuse bridgehead area.

I don't imagine for a minute that it will be possible to fully populate the map due to processing contraints however if key areas are detailed and the remainder is limited to principal features it might work. Only one way to find out.

For the technically minded -- Singapore map_c.tga is 8000x5408 pix. which at 50m per pix is equivalent to 400km x 270.4km which is what I've based the map on.
Anybody care to check my figures?
