FW190 Gunsight

thats what im saying ... move the gunsight up a little - ok? Smile

like in this pic

the problem however with this is that the guns will fire at the wrong spot :?

I think if you would look at the differences between Ta-152C and earlier versions you may find a compromise.
If you noticed in the 152c and 152h the revi is slightly higher and the reticle is clearly above the bar.
If is too hard to modify the pit to somehow cover that bar the TA-152c pit could be a good compromise.

It would be more corect then in the case of A,F and D 190's.

Just look how high is the EZ42 seating in this A8 pit:

by popular request I want to ask, if it is possible to create a mod for the FW190 gunsight without this beam, so that it would be fit for online gaming or is there maybe a kind of such mod in development ?

There is no way that this mod would be fit for online gaming for one reason; only those that had it would have the advantage, however small it is. I have to say I agree wholeheartedly with Havok. Offline, who cares? In a mod server, again, who cares? The problem arises when people take mod's like this one in a server that does not allow them. I think we're all not so naive to believe that people won't do that, unfortunantly.

Well I can see your point, but surely it would only be a disadvantage to the other guy if you were both flying 190's,and only 1 had the modified sight.

Not sure what's happening with this mod. Did it die a death?

To recap - Wolf says removing the bar isn't feasible because it would reveal the lack of 3D structure and MrJolly says raising the whole sight would mean the cross hairs would no longer show where the bullets are being aimed. OK.

I wonder if this would work:

A tall pilot would presumably see something like this most of the time. The height of the gunsight hasn't changed, the reticle is still aligned with the guns (I'm shooting at a Beaufighter using a convergence of 300m), and all-round view for deflection shooting is improved. All I've done is raise the viewpoint very slightly using the 6DOF mod, to simulate being a taller pilot. I don't miss having a complete circle as the benefits of raising the viewpoint far outweigh it. I'd be quite happy to have this as the default view.

There is a limit to this imposed by the 190A8's breech bulges - raise the viewpoint any further and there are 3D problems.

Make it historically acurate. How can real be cheating? If a mitake was made, and people do nto want to believe it, or correct it, let us offliners have it. I want my sim to be as accurate as possible. Hero worship can go on online and letters sent. I want my Fw I payed for to be as true as it can be. I even want my extended foot rest modelled when I am on the ground!!

If the bar was removed then you would be able to see through your engine hood while just lookin through the gunsight or even in the normal seating position. It would look ugly and not proper and it would be some kind of a cheat.
There would have to be a way to model the missing engine cover, a thing i would welcome for the 109s too.

I admit, i use the 6DOF mod, but with this the view through the gunsight is nearly ok. Yes, i can see through the engine cover, but i never used it as some form of a cheat, btw it is still too obstructed by the spinner and various other stuff to use the view forward down as anything remotely as a cheat. It just bothers me because it is so ugly.
And to remove the bar would be wrong too, because then the viewpoint would be actually LOWER than the real pilots had it. I guess the gun covers on the upside of the covers would be visible in an ugly way. So the whole cockpit would have to be moved upwards some centimeters before deleting the bar is feasible. If its possible is another thing.

But for the possibility of raising the gunsight: Somewhere i read that if that was done, the guns wouldn't be anymore in harmony with the gunsight, i.e. they would shoot lower than indicated.
I wonder if there is any real solution to the problem?

BTW i find the way gunsights are implemented really annoying. The whole idea of such a gunsight is that whereever you move your head, the crosshairs will still be centered. But in this game the crosshairs actually move WITH the view! It seems like the gunsight reticle is nothing but a picture some distance in front of the viewpoint that is always visible within the defined confines of the gunsight or outside of the "restriction box". That is nothing like the real thing!
/rant off

Just wanted to say that this is all not so easy as it seems. A real solution has to be found! And that could prove well impossible. At least I can think of none. Maybe someone else can.

... and raise the cockpit position a little higher....

I just realised that this doesn't make sense in the way i intended it.
What I mean is: the reticle is always centered at infinity in reality. So wherever you move your head, it stays right BEFORE your eyes. In the game it doesn't seem to be centered at infinity, but rather some much shorter distance before your eyes. something like 50 cm to 2 meters or so.
So in planes that would benefit from a large gunsight like the Tempest or the F4U, when moving the head in any direction but dead center the gunsight will not show the point anymore where the guns are aiming, but rather off to one side.

Ok.. I've installed this and although the front view is pretty good now, there are several 190 variants that the rear view is now totally messed up!! I've had to uninstall it, it was really bad!
