Yeah I actually had known about it but completely forgot when I was adding units and was trying to keep things Australia where I could. Another big gap I found in IL2 for the IJN is that the game has no mid range warships for the CV's escorts. It basically forces you to use a battleship to simulate the firepower of several cruisers and likewise I had to use some of the German flak ships to give the fleet enough density of flak without adding too many ships. Filling out some of the warship classes would be a good mod to add in itself.

Ok just a bit of advance notice that I'm getting pretty close to having a setup for the Darwin campaign I hope will be ok to let loose on the world.

Just getting a couple of 457 squadron m8s to verify it installs ok and generates a working campaign first and then assuming that everything goes ok I'll send it off to Lowengrin towards the end of the week (I feel obliged to send it his way first because he's given me a lot of help building it and I assume he's ok on the idea of hosting a mod based DCG campaign) and you'll see it very soon afterwards.

I guess you might want to start looking for skins you want to use Wink

originally LG was against the mods and said they wouldnt be supported but i think he now accepts them, but he did say that he wouldnt be developing any campaigns for mod maps or mod a/c. I cant see why he couldnt include it on his site though

Ok I've had a few hiccup's and the 457 m8 who was mainly testing the install notes etc has had PC problems and been unable to test. So rather than delay things I've gone over everything again and tried to confirm it's all good and sent the files off to Lowengrin. No guarantees as I've asked him to perform a quick check too and he may spot a problem and send it back to me for a fix but you hopefully will see it soon for download at his site. I've included the dgen files for a RAAF and IJN campaign and the ngen one too. I've delibrately kept it that the only mod is the map and possibly the 4.09bm1 FMB objects I might have used and left the flyable/non flyable aircraft as per the std DCG. If you particularly want other aircraft (or an IJA campaign) you'll have to change my setup and/or DCG's files. I'm hoping that it runs ok on other people's pc's and that it gives you some hours of enjoyment. Fingers and toes crossed.

ANy textures that we should load with this map? I've read the all.ini thread and this entire one but still can't seem to get it to work.

Not sure what the problem is.. where are you having problems loading the map? QMB, FMB?? What version of the game are you running?

Sorry my bad. I am running 4.09m. Haven't tried it in FMB and can't see it in the map list under QMB.

You need an additional line in your config.ini to add the map to QMB. If you read the QMB thread (The link is inoperative) you'll see how to do it.

If you add the required line to your conf.ini you'll at least be able to run it under "target none".
You'll need specially made missions to be able to select the other target types in QMB.

You should be able to open the map in FMB with no problems already.

Some news on the DCG campaign, Lowengrin has been doing some testing and suggested a few changes. I'll make the updates and barring any more issues being found will forward him the final version in the next 3 or 4 days - so with a bit of luck you'll have it as an Easter present. Apologies for the delays.

I've been working on an update for the map, mostly things/issues that have been raised after release. No significant changes to roads, installations, coastlines etc. The fictional island is now included in the map_F.tga and won't just appear out of the blackness (excellent mode only)......D'oh!!!

I'm also including additional correct lower LOD tex for custom textures. Improves FPS when custom tex are viewed ingame.

That's good news Neil. I know we've talked about the coastline and some of the features of the town and you've said above that you won't get it in this version but one for you to look at is the RAAF base at Darwin. Lowengrin ended up helping me with additional DCG setup to force traffic to take off in a particular direction because a fully laden 2 engined bomber always hit the trees on the northern end of the strip. This seems to be because the full runway length is never used - ie when you add a flight in FMB and set the first way point to be a take off point and the way point snaps to one of the runway end markers. But when you fly the sample mission the aircraft are sitting nearly half way down the strip. Even taking off to the south they only just make it........It looks like there might be an issue with the way the airfield is set up in the map. I don't know the technicalities of map building but that is how it seems to me.

Not a show stopper for me because DCG lets me get around it but a 4 engine bomber like B24 would have real trouble getting off the deck and Liberators did operate out of Darwin on occasion.

I should have said I was using 2 flights of 4 aircraft in testing this

Hi Neil,
No problem, it's not much of a test mission it's just 2 flights of 4 Blenheims with 100% fuel and 2*500lbs bombs take off in a northerly direction from Darwin. I've added the same to Parap so you can see the difference. At Parap the eight a/c start from the far southern end of the field and only the last one gets off the ground. At Darwin the eight a/c start basically half down the runway and only the last three get off the ground - it's like Darwin runway is only slightly longer than Parap as far as the internal mechanics of the game is concerned even though graphically Darwin is nearly twice as long as Parap. Lowengrin also noted the same thing.
