This stuff is all superb. By the way - this is FlatSpinMan here - I was drinking a beer named Delerium Nocturnum when I registered and was unsure if I'd be staying. Now I definitely am! The work here is going to extend the life and playabilty of this sim dramatically. I dunno about online but offline you gentlemen are doing amazing things.
I can't believe it is this easy - not easy, but I mean that Oleg never implemented the ideas you guys have done.
Now on topic, how do I get/use these maps? If I made a mission or campaign on them would only Mod users be able to play them?
Cheers,
FlatSpinman
Hey FSM.. How's it going? Well, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was just about to ask the same questions..
Will these map mods only work with the new sound mod version.
will they be usable online as well as off.
Will new maps be presented in an easy package, whereby the layman like me can easily install them...
Regards.. Dave S.
Non mod users can still use them, if they are just re-colours of existing maps. If they are new editions to the map list (like the superb Winter Norway) then they will need to have the sound mod installed.
Hey Trooper and Feathered,
This stuff is just unreal, isn't it? What was Oleg doing all these years?
I know it's still early days yet but once these things are set up and a decent number of maps have been made they should seriously think about packaging everything up in one easy file. I kind of know what I'm doing but I just know I could screw the whole thing up in seconds without even trying when I go to install the maps or something. In fact, I'm just about to load up and see if _zo's Norway Winter map is in there.
Cross your fingers!

And to think that it's only been a couple of weeks since all this got going.... :!:
Installed Norway winter map... It works and looks great!.. Phew.!
Me too ..
Installed Norway winter map... It works and looks great!.. Phew.!
Well, just spent a great fun hour (12:00 am till 1;30 am) playing Zo's new Norway Winter map. Easy to install for someone used to installing skins and campaigns and excellent fun.
The Banff airfield is tricky cos you can't see the runway but that could be a great touch of realism for some maps - more natural looking especially in early war scenarios.
It was such fun taking off in the B17g, B29 and especially the Storch!!!! I took off and landed about 4 times on the one stretch of runway in the northernmost Norwegian airfield. That plane is a blast to fly. Haven't had this much fun in IL2 for ages.
Standardising all the versions will be important to do from the start else there'll be chaos with campaigns and online. Still, early days yet and things seem to be evolving in a great direction.
