Fairey Battle
#16

This is interesting. My opinion is that these 'hybrid' aircraft are a great idea for immersion in a campaign as ai enemies or allies, but not really any good for someone with a desire to fly the aircraft. Flying the Hurricane/Kate hybrid is not getting anyone nearer to flying a Fairy Battle. But this does show that there is still a lot of room for future mods of this game...hopefully. The ultimate dream is to get aircraft like the Meteor and Spit XIV flyable... Smile

RealDarko Wrote:Well you can fly a hacked Fairey Battle or not fly a Fairey Battle at all, let the guys work on it, don't start asking for perfect models, that's what killed almost all the projects for Il2

You're right. In fact, there are many mods which I have chosen to ignore, namely flying B-29's with a He111 cockpit, and others which I have openly downloaded because they didnt detract from the essence of the aircraft, like the Mosquito VI cockpit in the Mosquito B IV...

That said, I find this sort of thing ridiculous, especially pushing to have a Typhoon which is made from a Tempest fuselage, B5N wing(which is too big BTW) and a Hurricane vertical stabilizer. That will kill it for me right there.

Its nice to have new planes and all, but its also good to have a standard.

Hey, I'm not pushing for anything, I'm just making a suggestion to explore the envelope of what's possible. It's then up to everyone else to decide whether they like the results. You're not the only aesthete here and you're not the judge and jury. Nobody would like a perfect Typhoon more than me, but unless you or I make one we ain't gonna get one. Who is going to do this work? It takes a minimum of three months to create a 3D aircraft model for IL2. Even then, there is no guarantee that new models could be imported into the game - that hurdle hasn't been crossed yet. I mentioned the Typhoon, because, as nice as a Battle is, a Typhoon would be more popular. I'm perfectly aware of the shortcomings of what we have; it's a question right now of doing the best that can be done and taking it on from there. If you don't like the result of any mod, you don't have to download it.

EDIT: I don't even know if I'd like it myself, but I'd like to see it first.

Sorry Username if I came across as mad at you or making fun of you for coming up with the idea, that wasnt my intention.

The message I was trying to get across was basically what Metatron said. A nice way to add immersion, but for me it would kill the enjoyment I have for this sim if someone came up with the hacked up Typhoon. The Tiffie is as sacred to me as the Cow is to an Indian. Thats why I reacted that way.

There are some aircraft on here that may be able to pass as a good representation of some sadly missing aircraft.. I feel the example we have seen of the 'Battle' is one of them. However, I agree that we can't just cobble together some sort of hybrid to resemble the likes of the Tiffy.. it's too iconic to have it anything but nigh on perfect!..

I'm in orgasm heaven just reading this thread 8)

A 'Griffon' Spit would be brilliant, but I'll take whatever comes my way (No I've already done that - see above  )

Can't wait to see what happens with this 8) Big Grin 8)

Spitty cockpit with the sight removed should look pretty good on that. The canopy is very similar Smile

That's ok mate, the Typhoon is a favourite of mine too. I'm just clutching at straws really.
About three years ago, I sent some books and documents concerning the Tempest to Alex Voicu's address in Romania. Unfortunately, I no longer have his email address - if I did, I'd draw his attention to this site. He's a very clever guy and his Typhoon model is superb.

MMM
The idea with this mod is that you install what you want, not all, so If you don't want a flyable Fairey Battle, you don't have to install it, same for the Typhie.
Hope to see some 3d development here

yeah fair enough install it if you want, but there are (i imagine, i may be wrong) issues with creating an entirely new fm/dm for it - typhoons had a habit of their tail breaking off, pretty well documented as well. fairey battles... they just had the reputation of being total death traps.

nah they used them in essentially suicidal missions, very brave crews going up in obsolete aircraft.
referring to this though, what bits are combined to make this battle? spit/hurri nose minus the spinner, il-10 tail and b6n fuselage?

Give a fixed landing gear to the I-153 for the I-15 Chato, give the 109E a two blade spinner for the 109B2, a in-line engine to the Cr.42 for the amazing Cr.32... ( the big radiator of the Tempest )
