and only thing that stops us from openly discus files and tools that may be used for changin FM is one we are accused that we don't have ... caring for cheat-less online play

fly_zo why does it bother you about what he said? I doubt Sparx wants people using Mods on his server. I'm not sure why you modders have such an issue with the Anti-Modders? Anti-Modders enjoyed the Sim for what it was. The Modders felt a need to change it. There was no choice involved. It's like I said in my previous post on this thread. If 4.09 patch comes out and nothing is done to correct it from modding I will most likely shut down il2league.com and walk away from this sim. I see guys on here say that its ok that the old walk away because your getting new and some old back. I don't agree with that. I started with IL2 since the very beginning and followed it up till now. I never did want to see it end up like CFS2. I hoped that IL2 would just be enjoyed the way it was intended, even with all its faults. The IL2 series is now dead just like CFS. The Mods on here are not the reason for that directly, but it was made public by this site. Members using Hyperlobby to tell everyone about them, Then going on squads websites and posting on their forums links to this site. That will cause people to take the work here another step further (Which is hapenning already) and people will just lose interest. LOL I guess my wife will be greatfull when IL2 is done considering that I spent alot of time and money on this community.

All I'm gonna say, is you can't please all the people all the time.

Even with an "Anti-cheat" statement of intent, a lot of the anti-modders will howl.. as 334th_Prince_BK illustrates. Not intending to single you out, Prince, you are just a handy example.

IL2 is only dead, if you delete it off of your hsrd-drive. AFAIK, the old girl still has plenty of life left in her, modded and unmodded, online, and offline. At least for me.

AAA wasn't the first to go public. They are now, however, the most prominent at this time.

I too, have been around since the beginnings of IL2, using the sim when and where opportunity presented itself around my real-life schedule. Gone are the heady days of the Hyperlobby's IL2 channel being populated with 1,000+ onliners at once.. the numbers had been dwindling long before rumours of 'cheating' or 'modding' began surfacing a year ago or so. This is the life-cycle of online games - IL2 had a run that is/was longer than most. Modding isn't responsible for the reduced numbers by any large factor.

All AAA did was prove that if there is a demand, they will come, both onliners and offliners with an open mind to try the new mods.

Cheating was occuring before the mods went public, with or without a statement of intent, they'll continue to be used by a small minority that can't and won't be stopped by philisophical statements.

Moaning about AAA encouraging people to further hack IL2 is moot.. it'll happen whether AAA is around or not.

Sorry about the anti-mods unhappyness with the present state of affairs, but that is life... virtually, or reality based. If you can't or won't accept or adapt to the present reality, well.. sorry to see you go. S!

JMHO..

well first i do understand your position and i generally agree but for me as offliner who has lost interst in game and i did play it since il2 demo ( slide show at the time) modding has brought new life into it . I love creating FMB sceneries and missions and now i have so much more options that it will keep me occupied way past SOW BOB gets out . I really hope that you onliners will find the way to protect your servers so everyone gets what he wants but i refuse to be blamed for allowing cheating just because i changed some textures on the maps or repainted my gui. I am really sorry you cant enjoy the game anymore... but there is really nothing anyone can do .

all the best

Has anyone noticed, that for every passing day the aggravation in this forum just gets worse?

I've just observed things until now, but hello.

A statement of intent in a sticky may be a little helpful in cooling off the attitude against mods in IL2. But there is ultimately very little that can be done, the most effective I feel is modding to improve the game and showing by example how much mods can improve a game. There will eventually be cheaters, it happens in all games, but allowing mods has always kept games alive and brought in more players.

Maddox games has always been slow to implement new things and dead set against some content (for legal reasons in PF and their tastes) modding frees that. With map modding, how long will it be before we will be able to fly over the solomons or aleutians? or any other area not represented? the possibilities are endless, we could have a spanish civil war mod with actual spanish terrain, air forces and all.

I'd similarly lost interest in IL2 a while ago and with mods I'm into it again. So glad to be able to fly the moranes and hawk for the finnish, and use her at pearl harbor.

One thing thats not quite clear, its good to see a stance against FM and DM changing. But what of new planes or historical variants of others? (ex making a P-40F, Or a boomerang for the aussies

I think to make planes from scratch can be very good: Devastators, Italian bombers, Spitfire late types, Me-410, Ki-44, Ki-45......
But to do it properly it's neccessary some time. It's too soon to terrorizing some people more, and it's neccessary some "quality control". Something like the 1% planes of MAW can be good. A zillion FMs and DMs for the same plane can be very, very bad.
I also think neccessary to respect the stock DM and FM that Oleg gave us.

Yes mate you're not alone. It's because the red-necked Ubi Front have dropped in to say 'hello' - like gate crashers at a party.

If the squealing doesn't abate soon, it'll be time to PM Mr Jolly for some action, wouldn't you say?

I'm in two minds at the moment..

1. I do think that things need to calm down, and I think the best way to do it is to give each side 'some space' and time to consider things. Once time has gone past people may be a little more susceptable to discuss.. We are trying to get both sides to accept the situation, but the damage has been done, and its just too raw at the moment..

2. I have the feeling that we are being forced to 'comply' with some sort of code of conduct to 'prove' we are honourable people.. I don't know about you, but I already know I am an honourable person with a high morale code, that goes for home and real life as well as playing games online!
I really don't need a 'chance to prove it'.. I've already reached and attained that criteria.
This is not me being a sh*t... But something inside of me doesn't like the idea of having to prove I'm worthy of playing a game online without cheating.... Sorry chaps, but that's just me.

I think we are losing focus here as regards a Statement of Intent.

It has nothing to do with an individuals' honor or morality, ie: the statement has nothing to do with "ME" or any other member here.

It has to do with the goals set by the owners of this site, the guys who set it up and maintain and moderate it.

No one has to concede anything to anyone. It is a simple, easy to understand statement that this site does not and will not promote changes to the game that involve tampering with Flight or Damage models for planes already in the game.

Would such a statement limit those here making planes out of bits and pieces and the support given here by the site owners?

No, as long as these planes do not appear online in servers that do not want mods.

I sympathize with onliners who want a certain purity in the game but I believe it is their responsibility to safeguard their servers.

If there is such a statement prominent at the top of these forums and it is adhered to, there is nothing for offliners to complain here about.

AAA cannot control what people do online nor should they be expected to do so.

Flyzo, I know it is not your intent to fan the flames here so perhaps you should add a little context to your last post.

The thread locked was a request for clarification of what was going on from a member there who could have simply read, and may well have already read numerous other posts on the subject.

Was he simply fanning flames, perhaps, perhaps not but I do not believe the lock was intended to limit discussion, just to contain it to relevent threads.

And, I find 3 locked topics in the last 3 pages of the General Discussion forum over there, one asking about Assassins Creed, not even IL2 related.

Well, I never saw the warning to flamers post but I have seen the, so far, 3 page result. It seems to be mainly concerned with old timers there leaving or staying and discussing moderator methods of operation.
