Server
#1

Well I thought this the best place to uh... place this.

Me and my squadron have decided after several hours of debate to run a server that supports the official mods released by this community (the big bombers, sound, and 6dof mods). However, any other third party mods such as but not limited to: FM changes, WM changes will not be supported and people caught using this will be banned.

The server will be full real, with limited icons however, thus making gameplay fun. We are a full real squadron so no there will not be outside views or padlock turned on... this subject is NON-NEGOTIABLE!

With that said, let me throw the idea for our server at you.

The squad has come up with the following idea:

To start out with a single map such as new guinea, with the map split in half and targets on each side of the map, when the mission starts, players get the choice of what they want to do based on the mission. Now, depending on who wins the map will determine what the next map will be. For instance, say blue completes their mission objectives which for example in this case could be an airfield to destroy, if they do that, then the next map that is generated, blue owns that airfield and gets to use it as such. Same goes for red. this way, in order for a campaign to be won each side has to work together to complete mission objectives. The campaigns will be based in a certain era of time (such as from 1940-1941) or something like that, and the planesets and such wont change until the time advances.

For example, say its 1940 when the war starts, the japs only have 1940 era zeroes, say its getting into 1941 with the battle, the japs would now have 1941 era zeroes.

So, that is the plan as of right now, we have members who right now are working on missions towards the first campaign.

We will make another announcement when the server is ready to launch and the server name.

Let me know your comments/crits.

Btw, you may visit our website if you wish and discuss it there as well, (sorry if this link is not allowed, if it isnt admins just dlt it)

Very happy to finally see another full switch server. Especially one which supports the new 'soft' mods. I'll keep an eye out for it.

I see you are already using these settings, I think this is a smart move on your part. I for one primarily installed the mod for offline full real flying flying, but at last you guys are flying with the settings I like most. Certainly a brave move as the rest of the nonconverted will be looking for your scalp  I will be on later today, when does your server fill up?

AAA server is also planned to make use of semi-dynamic maps

winning a map for you side may result in the next map being advantageous somehow for the winners, or perhaps disadvantageous for the losers

this should be running this way for us next week, once tgts have been expanded and refined foir the purpose

you guys have ur work cut out for you, last night i was at "Alex" server, a pit on server out of russia....was a loosely red vd blue game, but they added certain AI types...types that we all know as being flyable with mods...they DID have external views enabled though...and oadlock, which i quite liked, not beign a TiR user (HINT HINT!)

also, i KNOW that there is another well known north american FR server at HL that will soon be using AI flyables in thier maps.............

Our server has not launched yet, we hope to have the first campaign up and running by the end of November. The first campaign we will be running will be based in the pacific front, and will be based in new guinea, which was the beginning base camp of our real world counterparts from ww2.

I believe your looking at the other black sheeps server (bss) thats the vmf-12 group, they are our friends however and they do support the mods as well.

Also I would like to state that our maps will be based upon user input.

So for my first string of questions.

The first campaign will be new guinea, the blue side will be starting in the ocean with a fleet and the red side will have 4 airbases, two of which will be setup as bomber bases and the other two will be setup as fighter bases.

Now a few questions for you guys. Do you prefer the missions to be setup with distances between bases and targets? thus making it more realistic, or do you prefer the missions to have a closer setup to the target area so the flight time is cut down somewhat?

Post your opinions and thoughts and they will be worked with!

Nothing will empty a quiet server than having to fly too far to targets, I think initially keep the distances to targets fairly small, 2.5-3 grids. So that will be 5-6 grid squares between bases, enough of a gap when the map starts to get some half decent altitude before meeting the first fighters.
Targets, easy to find firstly, next, sensible target choice for planeset. Nothing more frustrating than flying a Jabo mission in a plane that carries 1 bomb against a field full of tanks spread too far apart.
I personally love skip bombing ships, attacking columns of trucks and tanks.

AAA around targets is a real trial and error thing.

What are your server rules?, I joined your site but it wont let me in anywhere.

If you are against vulching then put in place plenty of AAA around the airfields

Yes I saw your profile on the forums, you are now allowed to post. We have separate usergroups setup to keep spam bots from posting on our forums.

The rules will be realistic... and since in some cases the airfields would be targets, vulching will be allowed but perching will not. We would classify a perch as someone who is constantly sitting above an airfield making pass after pass on the same person... vulching however, such as making one or two passes when your in the area is allowed.

Rules would apply to each campaign... markings need to be accurate and we hope to have some period skins available. We are working on a solution to the skins. What we had in mind was to post skin packs specific for each campaign that is running, this way people would have the correct skins for each campaign that runs.

Just a bump, remember, your input will be added to the missions, the time to add the input is now as we are creating the missions.

UPDATE

Alright folks, we had a test launch this last weekend after thanks giving and we are proud to announce that the server will be running on IL2 SC. We currently have three historically based maps built and almost ready (all thats left is the briefs).

With that, we will be performing a Stress test launch on this coming Wednesday the 29th of November 2007 at 6 PM MST (MOUNTAIN STANDARD) (THATS 8 PM EASTERN) (7 PM CENTRAL) (5 PM PACIFIC) and will run for a total of three hours, spending one hour on each map.

If needed we can push the time up a little (hour or two).

We currently will be giving out 20 slots for the stress test (we will have a total of about 28 but we need the extra 8 slots for our members to participate) so that leaves 20. If you are interested in joining us then post here and I will personally PM each one of you the password for this coming Wednesday to the server.

Now be quick, because we are taking people in the order that they reply to this thread, so if you don't make it in 20 posts or less, then you won't be able to attend and will have to wait till the weekend for the server to launch, or if needed you may be asked for reserve in case some people end up not making it.

Just to re-iterate here-Our server missions are historically based, with realistic plane sets and full real settings and we are including AI flyables into our missions (this includes some of the heavy bombers and new light bombers as well as some of the new fighters) - we currently have two missions that will include the b17's and b24's and one mission including the new Hawk (pacific map).

So, sign up now and join us for some fun on Wednesday!

Salute to you all~

We have decided to open the event to all available! The server is 64 player max, so anyone who wants to come is quite welcome!
