I agree with you totaly, The PBY had wheels.. im not sure but i think they just had a float varrient... i think we got that one, or they ran out of time.

There are multiple versions of the PBY, as it is common with almost every plane to update or adapt it.

It's true, there were Catalina-Versions which had a normal gear and amphibian qualities as well as there are version which were only amphibian (cheaper& lighter). Just google a bit for PBY Catalina and PBN Nomad...Wink

not gonna happen.

it would require importing new 3d models.

the version we have in the sim is the russian one, no -A's were modeled. sorry guys.

A=amphibian. example; PBY-5a PBY-6a

no "a" = no amphibian.

Well we have the version that didn't actually have gears on it, the gears retract into the plane as far as I know which you couldn't really do.

Yeah, but I fear the only chance would be like all the other "new planes": Stuffing together different parts of planes to patch some gear on the existing PBY and thus overwriting the amphibian version...would suck a bit and I think there are other priorities for these modders ( I personally dislike all these "stufftogether"planes...that's a step too far...model me a new plane with a real 3D-model etc. and I'm fine with that, but this way...no...)

No.. it's not a step to far.. This is all the modders have to work with at the moment, and they are busting a gut to try to give us something different.. Do you think for one minute that they would be doing this if we could introduce new types into the game?? Of course not, it's an interim measure until further steps are discovered.. How many more times.. We are on a 'modding site'.. things are being modded for your further enjoyment...

I don't say they should stop, but I'd prefer if they concentrated on giving us more of the AI planes with cockpits instead for now Wink , I know, I'm quite egoistic. "A step too far" was related to my personal opinion, as I won't use them under current circumstances( they replace orig. planes and don't offer the "real deal", and that long I'm not interested in using them.)

I'm also aware that modding consists mainly of "messing around" with the game files as long as there is no official support, and I'm really amazed how productive and creative this community here is inf in finding new ways and new possibilites to mod the game. So it always is the best to just try out everything, that's the only way to find out what's possible and what not. It's basicly the empiristic approach every scientist goes in proving theories Wink , time-consuming, exhausting, but a 100% sure result.

I just don't like how - as it seems - everybody now goes for these cracky planes, I'd prefer a updated Bomber pack or an amphibian pack or more fighters...if the cracked planes at least could be added and wouldn't replace original planes Sad . And in addition I don't quite see a way how this would "unlock" another path in true IL2 Modding...

As said, this is a personal opinion, I don't want to tell you things here. I also think modding should be tried in EVERY way possible, and even FMs will be accessed sooner or later, and it becomes necessary as soon as we have a way to import new planes with new 3D models and thus need a new (of course well researched and fair) FM. That would be something I'd absolutely love, as surely everyone else.

But we go a bit offtopic here, I fear. Big Grin

I believe that in this community there are lots of people each with different talents. Some people like ranwers here are good at putting plane parts together. Jolly and Wolf are very good at making AI planes flyable with cockpits and gunners. Others like vpmedia are good at making maps. So I don't see how changing and adjusting these planes visually will slow down the creation of Player planes.
