Open planes?
#1

Hi to all

Is there some tool to open the airplanes in 3D, and to modify them?

Cheers

In what way, and why would you want to modify the existing modelled aircraft?

There is supposed to be a moratorium on doing any changes to Aircraft, that could effectively invalidate the FM model.

There is some people 'cutting and splicing' various models to come up with entirely different hacked aircraft (ie the Walrus thread, and the PZL-37B Los thread) - but as far as i know, existing aircraft are supposed to remain largely untouched, otherwise it's a slippery slope to MS Crimson Skies and FM's that are corrupted by 'design by committee', and no longer designed by Oleg - In my opinion anyway.

1% planes for CFS were of very high quality, on the other hand opening of sfs files enabled us insight into some obvious FM/DM strangeness. Like Ta-152C having incorrect, smaller wing or 190F-8 having ridiculous amount of armour applied to it's tail section (twice the armour of A8!).

We can give more fidelity to existing aircraft, however there is no way to force the same FM for all therefore online play with modded FM is kaputt. I might be flying the "correct" 190F-8 while you fly 190F-8 with La-7 FM. Secondly, geting consensus on which data to use would be ...well...just look at ubi zoo.

I'd be more then happy if we had 1% il-2 community but somehow, I don't think it will happen.

I don't want to modify the existent airplanes, but, starting from them to make new airplanes. 8)

.... theres your answer, in the 'cutting and splicing'. At the moment thats all we've got.
