P-40 "Butterfly" wings. Can they be fixed?
#1

One of the big errors in external modelling that dates back to version 1.0 is the exaggerated dihedral of the P-40 E/M variants. The wings angle upwards in an entirely unconvincing manner. Double that of their real life counterparts.

Oleg said several times that the error was acknowledged, but that there were no plans to correct it.

Can the P-40 now be corrected, based on the experience gained by certain AAA menbers and their pioneering efforts in other external modding projects?

I have seen this posted before and it's a bit of a trifle to worry over I think. It doesn't change anything.
I used to fly R/C airplanes and that dihedral would make the plane have a tendancy to make it self-leveling but in game it's meaningless, purely asthetic.

I think it's a good idea Big Grin The poor old P-40E etc, are ugly enough in real life without having the over-bent wings they have in IL2.

@rawners, did you try to swap the P-40B wings onto the P-40E fuselage? Just a thought.

Well they do say beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Yes.. But it looks sh*t!! Look at any profile of the P-40E series and above and then look at the one in the sim.. Its almost laughable.
Imagine that same outrage on the Spitfire.. Oleg and his team would have been ragged on all the forums without a doubt!!
If it's possible to sort this it should be done..

It's sad Oleg and company never fixed that overt bug on both the P40E and M model.

Yeah it could have been a whole lot better. When I compare the real one with the IL2 one, the first thing I think is that the hard black antenna wires are wound so tight they're pulling the wings outta shape Confusedhock:

Maybe someone handy at hex editing could fix it?
