B17 & B24 top and bottom turrets used sperry K4/K5 computing gun sight (ball turret in B17 & B24 identical - both made by sperry - except B24 could be raised/lowered). I know the K4/K5 were computing sights but I'm not sure of the difference between them and the "ace maker" as found in late spits and P51's.

According to this site http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avp47.html the P-47D-40 included the K14, but it also states that the D40 modification of a dorsal fin was done in the field. Does not explicitly state that the K14 was installed.

And this French Wikipedia site http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_P-47_Thunderbolt confirms the K14 in the D40 with over 1400 aircraft produced.

As far I know the Mk.II gyro gunsight was used in: Spitfire Mk.IX, Spitfire Mk.XIV, Spitfire Mk.XVI, Lancaster.
No Gyro gun sight for Tempest Mk.V.

K-14 gyro gunsight was used in: P-51D/K, P-47D-40/M/N.

In Germany: a specification for the development of the gunsight, which automatically determined the necessary amount of lead by measuring angular velocity and target distance during pursuit , had been issued by the RLM in July 1939. However it was not until mid-1944 that the first examples of the gyro gunsight, designated EZ 40, were delivered to the E-Stelle Tarnowitz for testing.
By the end of August 1944 the Askania firm had assembled the first 15 production examples; on orders of the General der Jagdflieger they were installed in Bf 109 fighters of JG300. At this time the E-Stelle took delivery of the third prototype of the EZ 42, which was seen as the definitive version of the gyro gunsight . Extensive testing was carried out in an Fw 190 beginning in early September 1944. The first 15 examples of the preproduction series, which incorporated various design changes, were delivered about two months later. Like the earlier version, they were installed in machines of II./JG 300 for front-line testing.

According to Messerchsmitt records the parts for installation of the

HI ALL
Correct me if I'm wrong, but somewhere I read [unfortunately, I do not remember where there was] that late versions of Lightning had K-14 gunsight also. If there is historically correct [in your opinion] I would love to see the Acemaker on my P-38.
Sorry for my terrible English.

It sure is a pity that was a hoax - felt like wanting a bike for christmas, seeing a bike shaped parcel beside the tree, and it turns out to be an exercycle for grandma :?
