Things yet to be done

There goes some ideas for the modders.
-Seafire IB (Spit Vc + Seafire hook or Seafire fuselage + Spit Vc nose). This goes to the Seafire F.III slot
-Ability to replace each plane slot with a diferent plane - example; B-1 slot filled by a P-47M (P-47D-late correctly renamed)
-Correction on some cockpit colors - The Ki-61, Bf 109 family, N1K1/2 and some others
-Loadout change - Rockets for the Mosquito and FM-2 - Bombs and drop tanks for the Fw 190D/Ta 152
-Correction on some of the worst plane skin and markings of the game - the LA-5FN/La-7. New default skin and new number/star placement. The numbers should be behind the star.
-The same for the Yaks
-A sand filter for the Hurricanes
More to come! Cheers!!

-Replace the P-39D/P-400 gunsight with the more correct F4F-3/P-40B's
-Early P-47C/Ds used the same Spitfire gunsight. Strange but true!
-P-38's drop tanks for the P-80 wingtip plus bomb ordnance
-Tropical filter for the Bf 109E/F/G

Would also be great to have the tropical filters for the Hurricane, and the Su-2...this plane would be such a boon to early-war missions...awesome stuff these guys do, eh?

Guys, for me the best option for a A5M4's cockpit is a A6M2 without the sliding hood and Ki-27's gunsight. Smile

We could have all new graphics. All land/terrain textures can be new. All cockpit interiors can be new. All airstrips, buildings, cars and tanks. And bear in mind that is much easier to make a texture/skin of a building or hangar or tank or ship then cockpit for example, and in much less time.

Whole new sim Big Grin

Edit: less was "more"

Avala, I agree but in the meantime let's play around with this tricky game. The Pandora's Box is open so lest place our bets for the modders here. I think that it's a matter of time until we have a something like 70% new game. Big Grin

OK - Like a lot of people I use Mat Manager to replace the game's ugly default markings. It's a fine utility which does a great job within the limitations imposed by the game - BUT - it could be a whole lot better. 8)

The maker (Aces) knew this and was working with his programmer chum, Grat, to produce a newer, more flexible version until personal circumstances forced him to stop. He said on Sim HQ recently that he had found a way to place mat 'decals' on any part of any plane, at any size.

At the moment the positions of the mats are constrained within certain limits imposed by the size and position of the defaults. This means that even Mat Manager currently has to place mats in compromise positions - sometimes with unattractive results. The other problem is that Maddox Games placed aircraft into somewhat arbitrary groups and coded each group to share mat markings. This has unfortunate results for some aircraft and nationalities.

Another problem is that some mat markings are repeated without alteration on the fuselage and wings, top and bottom. This looks particularly wrong on RAF aircraft, but others are affected as well. Cry

Anyway, if Aces could work out how to get around this without the benefit of QTim's work it would presumably be a lot easier now. It would be great to have a new cache-loading utility that provided correct markings options for all nationalities. I mean correct in size and position for different periods, together with nose art, tail markings, randomized kill markings, unit heraldry etc. It might even be possible to have custom comments written on bombs - who knows?

It's a lot of work, of course - but I'm sure plenty of gifted graphics people would step up to the plate, if someone could first work out how to do it and produce a utility. That's how Mat Manager began, after all.

My list:
- Add dispersion to all rockets (between 8-16 Mils)
- Make trains invulnerable to anything except prolonged machinegun fire, cannons and bombs/rockets
- Make some ground objects and bridges more durable?
- Increase ship sinking times

Sliding canopys (on all the aircraft that had them) and Tailhooks on hurricanes

Well, good news about Mat Manager! Some of the mods I post here are easy and quick to do I think, but not to my knowledge. The Seahurricane is on my list too as well as the Sea Gladiator. Big Grin

the current cockpit is just fine the way it is - fits the lines and type nicely

I like the A5M4 cockpit as it is. It only could be better. Well, one of the things I want to know is the possibility of create a new plane slot - to add a new plane in the game. If not, a way to replace some unused planes (like the B-1 or Mistel to my taste) for another. Cheers!!

YES!!! It would be nice to have different mats for the same country. For example: The early war USN roundel with the red dot in the middle of the star for USN aircraft, but the star with wings for USAF planes, or even China markings for some aircraft too. Would be nice ...

to stay with the original subject of the Thread

- rear gunner for the Beaufighter
- tailhook for the Gladiator
- A functioning Catapult system on the carrier where we could "attach" and then lunch with a full combat load
