Well, thats true, it's already too late, even if we take down all the 4.09mb mod stuff they will say we are doing it anyway and that we know how. Oh well, maybe someone will still come up with a file checker or something.....I'm just tired of being second class cause I like ai flyables.

My ususal luck: I had discovered il2 mods one week ago and had just gotten everything working _yesterday_. Now I had to revert the installation in order to get 4.09 beta working. I tried to install it on the modded il2 but it didn't work, and 8.09 + modded files.sfs gave 4.08 in the splashscreen, meaning that 4.09 isn't working (I guess)

Maybe we could change the version number of the modded game, for example 5.00. So we'll have a different version that the normal online version (4.09). I don't know. Is it a nonsense?

That would be a good solution, that way mod friendly servers can run 5.00 and everyone else can have 4.09. Most of us keep two installs for non-mod online purposes so we would still be able to play on non-modded servers. Although as pointed out before, they will still say "we know you can hack 4.09!", perhaps we should still make the effort though, to keep the highground.

Guys, this is what I was hoping to avoid: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpost.p ... tcount=823 .

I know billfish has been shooting her mouth off with a bunch of malicious BS, but sadly in this case she is right. Where do we draw the line, do we start right in on cracking open SoW:BoB as soon as it's out too?

urufu,as you might have noticed,a lot of people here do not seem to care.I honestly thought that AAA would not condone the modding of 4.09.
I am happy with my modded 4.08 version, and will not go beyond that.
For online,I will only use vanilla il2.

"Tempest in a teacup" m8...what you do here with 4.09 is not going to stop it from being modded, and is certainly not going to improve the non-mod communities opinion of modders.

IMHO, looking at all sides of the mod, vs. non-mod "Rubik's cube" searching for the unattainable middle-ground, is an exercise in futility.

Just enjoy the modded version of 4.09 and stop worrying about the freak'en morality issue.

This is by definition a 'modders' site.. Things get modified for your enhanced enjoyment. Lets not start splitting this community like the madmen at ubi.
No-one is ******* with the FM on 4.09, it's just getting enhanced the way 4.08 was enhanced.. Get over it..

Ultimately your right, and the last thing I want is to split the modders. I am just a little confused about how I feel about this, somehow I had gotten it into my head that with 4.09 they would have thiers and we would have ours and all the damn bickering would stop. My bad I guess, lol.

Mate.. I think you know that that just won't happen, even if we did everything they are asking..

Even a week ago, i was anti DM/FM modding.. now, i've 'modded' my way of thinking.

The ONLY way, we can have our cake, and eat it too, is crawl inside the mind of Oleg, and figure out his code in-depth enough, to make as others have suggested, V.5.0 'modders special'. Some sort of third party tweak, that makes connecting up a V.5.0 client to any other version impossible.

I'm not suggesting someone re-write Punkbuster .. Obviously even Oleg doesn't have the manpower/skills to keep his own code secured even with a 'beta hack fix V.4.09b1 (modders reaction "huh? that was easy") .. but perhaps understand the java classes well enough, and plug in a reference that *only* modded versions will have..

Don't expect me to do it though. I'm a social worker, not a code monkey.

Will it be a another LAL_ROne or Josse, among us? How about Wazy, or QTim himself, again?

Is it possible in some way to have our cake and eat it too, to make the code 'uniquely modder friendly' - in some manner?

Gentlemen 's (ladies?) agreements to 'do the right thing' don't really float the boat when all it takes, is One Clown cheating online, to blow the scuttling charges and sink AAA's reputation anyway. Cheating is gonna happen regardless, the FM/DM issue is going to be a constant spectre, no matter the agreed upon version used - The One Clown problem again. Cheating has been an issue for a lot longer than first hint of the QTim mod was known, anyway.

No going back now, the genie is out of the bottle, and not getting stuffed back in, for better or for worse.

Sorry, but i too want my 4.09 cake.. I look forward to opening up my gaming computer tonight, and taking a look-see at the 200 (?) odd new objects, and checking out the other 'changes'. Hard to pass all that up, when V.4.09 moddable is within reach this easily.

Will i use it to cheat? Nope. Will someone else use it to cheat? Perhaps.. I can't control what others will do, however. I can control what i do - but i'll be damned if i get told what to do by a bunch of moral High-Roaders on the opposite side of an issue, not willing to reason.

Like FA_Cheech sorta says, lets just STFU and enjoy, at this point.

Well, jeeeeze Urufu, where was you sense of morality a month or two ago when 4.08 was the only version out there??? I don't see the difference at all. The non modded community has the ability to exclude a modded version from online play, and I assume that will not change. What's the problem??

These mods have breathed new life into a game that is decidedly long in the tooth. Oleg's next iteration is just around the corner and many will be flocking to SoW:BoB, leaving IL-2 in the dust. I, for one, will stick with this modded version of IL-2 for a long, long time due to the Pacific Theater of Operations, which SoW will be years in getting around to, if at all - thank you very much Northrup/Grumman.

All this hand wringing and nashing of theeth about the security of online play is just a bunch of hawg wash. It's like being at a big party full of Democrats and Republicans! All I can say is, "thank you AAA, for what you all have done, and I hope you continue the way you're going!"

Yeah, you're right, no point in not modding it, they're going to try to burn us anyway. I probably just got myself banned at 1c by telling billfish to go to hell more or less, lol ( http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread ... #post32425 ). I'm just naive, I was hoping for a middleground, but there is not one, so lets see some more mods!
