Hi,
with the new Malta map that is coming (shameless self-advertising here ) a Bristol Beaufort torpedo bomber could be a welcome addition.



Historically the Beaufort was the ancestor of the Beaufighter, who took wings, tail and engines from the Beaufort, with only a new fuselage.

So the Beaufort could be done by the Beaufighter, with a new fuselage, maybe from the Blenheim (front part) and maybe the A-20 (rear cockpit). The FM, DM and loadout of the Beaufigther would be almost perfect, these planes being close relatives...

What do you think about that?

One question though... without the moddification of the W/L... how would you stop the forward facing guns from the Beaufighter?

What about basing it on the Blenheim itself...?

Pity about the torp, it looks a lot like a Blenheim. Only real visual difference I can see is the raised area between the cockpit and mid upper gunner.

It's a completely different plane from Blenheim, just a vague "family look" (both made by Bristol).

Your'e both right.. It was developed from the Bristol Blenhiem, thats why it looks quite similar, however, it had many new components.. Larger wings, the airframe in total was much larger and heavier, could carry a larger bomb load or torpedo, and was powered by the more powerful Bristol Taurus or Pratt &Whitney twin wasp radials..

If it was possible, why not build it on one of the DB/Il4's, which carry a torpedo... (in the multi slot).

That would eliminate all the forward facing guns, and still give a satisfactory performance level, and armament....

Little bump for this aircraft... it should not be a difficult conversion... I would make it myself if only I knew where to start from...

FWIW: be advised that the Hercules engine of the Beaufighter produced a minimum 500 HP more than the Taurus engine of the Beaufort. This 1,000 HP or more would obviously affect the FM if trying to 'hack' the Beaufighter into the Beaufort.

The Beaufighter MkIIF had two RR Merlin XX, of 1,280 hp each.
By comparison, the Mk VIF had two Bristol Hercules VI engines, of 1,670 hp each.
