Ok heres what im after, i want to be able to run the game on perfect settings quite easily i want it to be able to use the internet and have a HUUUUUGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE memory.All this computer will be used for is Flying onil2 and using the internet. Basicly i need to know:

What do i need to run il2 on Perfect settings
how much memory
and i need it to run realy fast.

Without a budget? Go crazy and grab the highest of everything.


Realisticly? Memory is cheap, so get 4GB. WindowsXP will only use about 3.5GB of it, but hey, it's cheap.
Bang-for-bucks leaders are graphics cards with the 8800GT chip and 512MB.
CPU choice is a little dependant on preference, but the current Intel Core2Duo chips are good performers.
Motherboards are dependant on your choice: Future-proofing them a bit by picking SLI with nVidia's 780 chipset or a little bit more performance by picking Intel with the X38 chipset?

You can help by telling what the budget is, what the future brings in a year as an upgrade budget and what resolution your screen will be running.

I recently got a Core duo E6850 3.0 ghz./8800GTS 320mb./2 gb RAM

those three things are the most important....... fast CPU....fast GPU.....plenty of RAM

I tried perfect.....but use excellent because I like my missions FULL of action/planes/objects etc

on-line has to allow for many varied users so perfect should be OK there

my 8800GTS is slower than the GT...but a newer version GTS is coming out which will be faster than the current GT/GTX

a fast core duo is probably better than a quad core ....if intended for il2 only

Hawk are you intending to use Vista or XP? If your going to use Vista then you will need a bit more ram, probably 2-3 at around your budget that should make it ok. As others have mentioned with the graphic cards u want 256mb which should do, but if you have the money then 512mb. Not exactly sure what type but if you have a look on the internet and just search a bit on google you can find the best in the range with both ATI and Nivida.

If you intend to run IL2 only, which would mean using photoshop and a few other programs as well probably, then even a small hard drive of 80gig would do. In my IL2 408m it is 7gig and my 404m is 3gig. (mainly cos of the amount of skins). This all depends on how much u actually want and your money but i'd say that 80gig will do for only IL2 or even smaller but i don't think u can get that small now on desktops.

Core 2 Duo is good ie twice as fast so around about 2.0ghz or higher would mean around about 4.0ghz and that should be fine but as I have never done any running in Perfect settings as my graphic card is not especially good I do not know.

Internet Provider is also one, make sure u get a good fast connection which doesn't break up.

If you have to start from scratch, you are looking at the basic components first:

Case: 30-ish
Power supply: 50-ish (500W OCZ StealthXStream)
DVD burner: 20
HD, say a 250GB Seagate: 40
DDR2 memory, 2GB: 30
That's 170 quid

Video card 8800GT: 170

So 160 left

CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 with fan: 90

That leaves you with about 60 for the motherboard and other bits'n'bobs.


When you can borrow or get items from friends and relatives, or harvest items (like harddrive, optical drives or case) from an older PC, you can save a few quid that can go towards a better motherboard or more memory. The CPU is a good entry level component with good performance.

If you want to do overclocking, you'll need to spend some money on replacing the stock cooler. The PSU mentioned is already a good component and often overlooked when overclocking.
