[TEC] What is SideWood = forest/summer/ForestSide.tga?
#1

in load.ini, I see that. Oleg told me that they actually had modeled a polygon that was a side to the layered forest, but he said it looked weird on hills, and they removed it.

Seeing that made me wonder if we could turn that on...

cool idea .... is there forest folder under maps\_Tex\ with textures for that?

I'm asking cos i didn't extract my sfs files yet ( recent hardware issues ...)

Try extracting that forestside.tga and then use it with the splashscreen mod to see it. Generally i don't understand well the forest thing,

Wood0 = forest/summer/Wood0.tga
Wood1 = forest/summer/Wood1.tga
Wood2 = forest/summer/Wood2.tga
Wood3 = forest/summer/Wood3.tga
Wood4 = forest/summer/Wood4.tga
WoodMask2 = forest/summer/ForestMask.tga
WoodMask3 = forest/summer/ForestMask2.tga
WoodMiniMasks = forest/summer/MiniMask.tga
SideWood = forest/summer/ForestSide.tga

What are these wood0, wood1, wood2 etc

How do I even FIND that to extract it? I've messed with the extractor, do I need to extract every single SFS file?

I checked and i have it. What I did is really rxtracted all map.sfs to the same directory. But for this specific tga I just checked and it is in the initial sfs:"maps.sfs"

yep got to do the same here Wink

BTW.... Does anyone have an updated Filelist.txt for the extractor that includes the files/paths so that more of the files are found?

They are the different layers of trees.

They are the 'slices' that make up the faux-forests. What I'd really like to do is create extra layers of these to get even taller forests. Creating custom slices with some of these tree disks missing would make the tops of the canopy appear much less regular and even too.

Hey Bee, thanks for the explanation, finaly I understand!
So about your idea, wondering what happens if you just add one more forest entry say

Wood5 = forest/summer/Wood4.tga in the load ini

Either game will crash or...
If it doesn't crash then maybe your idea can work! And it may be pretty rewarding getting away from the standard il2 forest.

Tried it. No effect. There must be some file somewhere that enables this though.

Side would solve so many problems...

Oleg said that they had sides for forests, but it looked bad. He implied it was an automatic system. For years I have asked for a simple rectangle with a side view of a forest on it we could place in the FMB...
