I lived in Darwin for 17 years and have been waiting to fly in that region for yeeeeaaaars.We used to drag race our old V8s at old Sattler airstrip in the early 80's,as well as go looking for any old ww2 leftovers.I will see if i can dig you up some pics

Man it is damn hard trying to find any pics of the gun emplacements and bunkers.I could build it in the FMB and then show you it

This will at least give you an easy layout for the East Point Battery.

1.Gun Emplacement
2.Main Bunker
3.Ammo Bunker(connected via tunnels to main)
4.Gun emplacement
5.Tower
6.Gun emplacement
7.Bunker in face of cliff
8.Gun emplacement
9.AA platform or Radar tower(used to be there until the 90s anyway) about 80 foot high.

It would be nice to get trees/coastlines/elevations/tex blending like that ingame, somewhat of a compromise must be made ingame though I'll try my best.

If there's any pic with more of the complete layout of the Airfield I'd like to see that.

Awesome work Neal! 8)

For the last two days I have been populating villages and plantations on The_Slot. It's really great when I have a map or a photo to go by. T and spud are a big help in that department.

I'm also amazed at how much research has to be done just to ensure all the villages are identified and included on the map. I frequently look at three to four maps of the same location, and find that each one shows just "a few pieces of the puzzle".

I imagine you have this painting which shows the Darwin layout,main interest is that the roads were still all dirt and the layout of the wharves.Just above and to the right of the foreground Spit you can see the oil tanks,they are still there to this day,albeit rebuilt.East Point is the very extreme outcrop of land under the Lion stamp.

This shows Parap,Winnellie(Tent camp) Raaf base Darwin,Position of Oil and Fuel tanks,if you look at the b&w pic ofParap i posted above you will be able to see the orientation of the airfield and buildings.The white water tower and main hangar you see in a couple of those b&w shots at the main darwin airport is also on this map and the concrete pad shape may help with the orientation of the rest of the airport.

Currently working on Darwin AF at the moment, Parap has been built but is in the wrong place (d'oh) lots of re-arranging happenning. Lots of great info there Ajay, Thanx.

Once I've got it to a stage where some accuracy is displayed I'll pass a copy your way.

At the moment it's all under general disarray..lol

another thing- a lot of the houses in darwin at that time would be raised on stilt type tropical affairs,which you probably already now anyway.And a lot of mangroves would have lined everything that wasn't beach.
