DeviceLink and Online play
#1

DeviceLink, and the use of a second computer to display a virtual instrument cluster on a secondary screen has always intrigued me. I even built a 'simpit' cockpit/desk, incorporating a 2nd monitor where the instrument panel would be in placement.. but, DeviceLink is disabled, for Online play.

Oleg Maddox justified this in saying that it was a possible 'cheat'... I really don't understand how or why this would be, in this particular application? Could it be a 'lag' issue (similar to the printscreen cheat?) with older computers - but one would think that processor and network power has caught up to the point where a 'lag' issue would no longer really be an issue there..

What say all of you? Anyone else using/wanting to use DeviceLink online and see an issue with this?

Anyone found any code bits or 'switches' in the decripted files to re-enable DeviceLink when Online?

BUMP!

I mean I would like to use devicelink for external gauges on a separate screen like I during off-line playing. Really I miss it...

PS: At least READ ONLY, no feedback into the game needed - to avoid accusations of cheating this way..

Any solutions ? Modifications ? Hacks ?

I wonder if it will be possible in Il2 have virtual cockpits like in FSX or LOMAC...

I would like to see my working online a lot!

Best regs!

IIRC, i think the issue with it was that it could be used as, well, an all seeing radar on online missions. any action the other aircraft take was logged and could be checked, so no more low level sneaky bombing runs...

It would be interesting to see if that was possible at all. It should be possible to create a DeviceLink method of just getting the user's aircraft data. Whoever is interested in cheating, has other ways of going about it.

+1 on getting DeviceLink for the user's aircraft working.

.. and in that respect, what could be used for Evil, could be harnessed for the Good..

If the mods progress beyond which we have now, is it possible that we might be able to emulate the primitive radar of the day? It would make nightfighter scenario's possible, where none currently exist now if devicelink data could be harnessed to display 'radar data'. It's nice to know where the aircraft is, but you gotta find it first Smile

Just an additional thought.

DeviceLink is working online but it is limited to some commands only. There is no access to a number of GET methods to e.g. read aircraft pitch, speed etc. etc.

I suppose the change should allow another set of commands (maybe restricted as well) to be working, to get the data from the user's aircraft only.

I guess there is no way to make this "radar" cheat or something like this. I would like to see only things that are useful for self-built cockpits like:
1) altimeter
2) compass
3) variometer
4) pitch gauge
5) Attitude indicator
6) speedometer
7) engine RPM
8) engine oil temperature
9) fuel tank(s) gauge
10) Turn and bank indicator

There is omething like that, I think if you have that keyboard with the small display (Saitek maybe?), you can program it to tell you want loadout, gas, and a few other things the planes have. I was in a squadron that a few guys used that and we knew what the loadout was a could then set our planes up to counter. There was a one time on SimHQ a thread from the guys who wrote it.

Funny, none of the wacko's a the zoo thought that was a cheat  . Needless to say, I am no longer a part of that "Honorable" Squadron any more. I just hate cheaters.....

Phillip, this "keyboard stuff" was based on Il2 device-link and was restricted to online stuff. You can find details on Saitek forum...

I thought that was a Saitek keyboard. The idea may sound good, but for online play....well, IMO "that" is cheatin. Not what is being made here. But, to each his(her)own.

That exploit (reading the mission log) was used by a rather well known Russian squadron, ages ago and has nothing to do with device link. It has everything to do with il-2 logfile.

Thats good Skippy, but is the speed setting changeable to Knots or MPH?.. British aircraft instruments don't come in Kph mate..
