High resolution markings and numbers?
#1

As you know, some aircraft markings (such as German & Russion markings) and numbers in the game are quite old and look not very detailed. Since they are all images, replacing them with high resolution ones should not be a difficult thing. But it will make aircrafts looks much more real. What do you guys think about it?

Could probably be done, but I'm quite happy using Mat Manager for the markings at the moment, it looks good, and you can choose markings from different theaters/periods in the war....

How did you get Mat Manager to work with the mods? I assume you are talking about Aces Art Mat Manager with all the different possibilities and not the new glossy ones meant to work with Avala's specularity mod?

I tried Aces Mat Manager and I did not see the desired markings appear when I checked out aircraft within the object viewer. I thought that with the mod installed that it will take the glossy insignia inserted within the "files" folder over the traditional location where Mat Manager puts the new insignia.

Modded game with soundmod 9.3, avala's planshine mod and a long etc, is working perfectly with Mat Manager (latest version) here. Perfectly. Moreover, it's the best tool to set up correct and nice markings in your planes (quantity of options and periods).

Regards.

Did you have to do anything special on the installation? I get a bunch of errors about missing folders within the COOP folder ---- which I ignore --- when I exit Mat Manager and it starts copying its files.

yeah there is a self installing exe at mission4today now, but it used to be a case of install one version, run it and the game, uninstall and then install update, run, uninstall, install next update yadda yadda for about 4 updates, and if you missed any of the steps or did em slightly wrong it stuffed up the install of matmanager. the error messages were probably saying which files hadn't been installed properly. also need to have the delete cache folder option checked and uh... maybe other things, can't remember...

OK, so I have looked at the forums at ACE's site and followed the instructions there to no effect. Does mission 4 today offer a more reliable install guide? I know they have the software there for download but I did not note any reference to the "definitive" guide for making it work with 46.

Barring that...I guess I'll just have to pick through the bones myself and see what went wrong on the install.

yeah don't go to aces site, that is the version oh 2.33 or something, and you need several updates and the readme's are less than clear. the mission4today one is a self installing exe, like the mods here. it's just a fiddly installation process that is the downer with mat manager if you get it from aces site. perhaps fiddly is being too generous! anyway, here's the link

Two important things regarding IL-2 MAT MANAGER problems:

inside Mat Manager you must set the game path and then press the save button

you must also put ClearCache=0 into the [game] section of conf.ini

Hey Istvan,

How about a mod for QMB which takes default skins appropriate for an aircraft and time period (using your skins as an example) and then grabs the appropriate insignia from Mat Manager when paired with a selected map --- which most of time would have been associated with a particular time as well as location. Now that would truly be a "quick" mission with all the colors correct, skins and insignias appropriate to the map/period selected.

I'm perfectly satisfied with IL-2 Mat Manager, I made my own custom markings too:
