Greetings Sound Modders!

Here you will find some new sounds to enhance your enjoyment of SG2_Wasy's excellent sound mod for IL2. All the sounds here are new, so please backup and over-write any previous file versions.

THE SOUNDS
**********

1. air_start_begin_00.wav
This is a generic engine ignition sound that replaces the generic CLICK of engines starting. Looking at the presets files I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to have different start sounds for all types of engine. In the meantime, here's something you can try.

2. Land_m_2i.wav and Land_cb_19_1.wav
A stereo tyre screech sound for all aircraft.

3. p_dev_02.wav
A very cool stereo undercarriage raise & lower sound for Allied aircraft. This is taken from a CFS2 mod sample. It is a mechanical sound so it works well as a generic undercarriage sound. If you want this sound for Axis planes as well, you should make a copy of this file named wd_56_01a.wav but I suggest you use the sound in slpry's mod pack for Axis and this sound for Allied, for a bit of variety.

4. ground_siren.wav
A real air-raid siren sample.

5. Hispano_2700.wav
A replacement cockpit engine sound for LaGG, La and Yak fighters. This is derived from SG2_Wasy's original 9.0 sound, which I suspect was itself derived from a CFS2 sample (?), but I have altered it to create a smoother loop. It isn't totally perfect, but I think it is a significant improvement over the 9.0 sound. I gather that this sound has improved in v9.3 but since I haven't installed that mod I'm not sure how this sound compares to that one.

6. dev_00.wav
A new bomb release sound. Very mechanical sounding. Includes the sound of bombs falling in stereo. Very good for Jabo, but untested in bombers. I think it should work well in bombers too though.

7. p_dev_00.wav
Stereo flaps sound for Allied planes. This is derived from the original flaps sound for Allied planes, but processed and expanded to give a smoother sound.

8. key_01.wav and key_02.wav
New, slightly different click sounds for the GUI.

9. exp_3_30a.wav
A new sound for large explosions.

10. bomb_n00.wav, bomb_cass01.wav and bomb_07.wav
New sounds for falling bombs. In conjunction with the corresponding preset files, these sounds seek to limit the range of pitch that bombs make when falling. I noticed in some missions that with the default settings, sometimes these sounds were unrealistically high pitched or low pitched. If you have had similar experiences then you should try these sounds out.

Download them, give them a listen in Windows Media Player and install the ones you like. You will find more info and instructions in the README file.

Cheers,

Huxley.

"Limit server is reached, please, try it in few minutes..." (or something similar)

Damn 4shared.com. You won't get this kind of messages in Zshare, Rapidshare or Filefront.

Well, I will have to wait to test this wonderful mod, I think...

BTW, nicely done Huxely, although one thing I noted, for your reference... In the Corsairs/F4U, the new gear sounds are great from the out side, but very quiet, near on non-existant in the inside, same with the P-40's... Smile Havent had time to test the others. But good job mate Smile

U can change the volume of gear sounds(see Huxleys read me).I did it for the axis planes(i have just changed the name,of fille that gives gear sounds to planes from p_dev_02.wav,to wd_56_01a.wav,so u can have diferent sounds of gears in axis and allied planes(Huxleys idea),in sliprys mode, and have used hux. mode for allied). In my case the sound was to loud.

Cheers m8

On the future highly recommended don't use stereo sample, for this need more performance from PC and possible creating some artefacts (this thing primary for engines)

Yes Wasy, I noticed that high bitrates and stereo sound doesn't necessarily mean better in-game sound, especially for engines. The sounds that do benefit from stereo are the sounds of your own aircraft from inside the cockpit, like flaps, gears and bomb release. These sounds should be coming at you from the left and right side so stereo samples do a great job. I guess for everything else they are best avoided.

Cheers folks... Smile
