NICE!

You have No Idea How much I hate planes I can't Open the Canopy to. My buddies tease me and Say I'm closterphobic, but I just tell them... How am I going to know How Fast I am going with out the wind hitting me in the face!!

Actually that last line is a Quote herman goering said to willy messerschmidt when he was shown the prototype to the 109. Seriously.... He was a WW1 Flyer and did not like the idea of an Enclosesd Canopy!

Can't wait to get this sound working in the game!

Ok i think i see what you ment, I went and looked at my list of sounds in file/samples

This isnt in there, so I think it needs a .prs file, to be put in presets. I might be wrong, Im just learning about the mods and how they work, but even if I am right, I have no Idea how to make the needed file.

If you use the SFS extractor to extract all the sounds you can then search through them to find the sound you have to replace.

I'm sorry for being a pain,

But i have no idea what the SFS extractor is... I searched my IL2 folder, is this something I need to Download some where?
Again thanks for the help everyone.. I'm trying to learn the in's and out's in this example

1st Edit: Nevermind I found it: viewtopic.php?t=2268

Thanks!

2nd Edit: Ooo Lord, is there a Tutorial on how to use this program?

It's actually pretty simple.

Create a directory on your hard drive called SFS Files and copy all the files from your IL2 directory with a .sfs extension to this directory. Then open them using the extractor (you are interested in the sounds sfs files) you will see a list of all the embedded files in the SFS files. Create another folder called Sounds and extract all these files to that folder.

You can now listen to them and find the one that corresponds to the sound you want to change.

Ok I found the Canopy open sound 0EE7DDA2DC264EB0

I did as you said... now that I've located the file, what do I do to replace it with the neat sound file that Paulo Hirth was so cool to provide for us.

Being that it's a .wav file, and the one it would replace isnt, and isnt in the sample folder.. what do i do?

Again, Thanks!

Ah... if it's one of these strange looking files I don't know. Can you actually listen to this thing?

yes I could listen to them all, they were different stock game sounds.

I couldn't listen to them until they were extracted, at which time it seems they also became waves.

I could replace the original and name the new one the same, but I don't know How to change the format of this new wave to the format those files were, unextracted.

I hope y'all get this figured out. The stock opening canopy sound is almost too low to hear. While you're looking at open cockpits, it would be nice if engine, gun and wind sounds would increase or change in some way while flying with the canopy open.

Thanks and good luck.

With the files that have proper names it's dead easy.

Imagine the file you extracted is called xxxx_00.wav, you just need to change the new sound file's name to xxxx_00.wav and then copy it to your files/samples directory. Then you need to add that path and filename to your filelist.txt file in the root IL2 directory. And that's it.
