line of sight

Is it possible that pilots have a limited line of sight ? If its possible that only after some distance they can see and identify a plane . Like at night they cant see anything in reality , but in game they know theres something out there . I had this idea watching some real movies of WW2 where actually pilots had difficulties finding planes . Imagine this :
Youre in a fighter flying at a reasonable altitude and you see an enemy fighter flying below you , he didnt see you so you try to engage him and he cant see you behind (unless its a fighter with mirror) , he only knows there is something behind after some shots but it might be too late for him .
Even in day this can happen .
Just an idea but i think its hard to do

It would be very interesting if the AI actually had a blind spot. They literally seem to start evading when you have the sight in the right spot to hit them, lol.

For a game that was built not for online, but for offline, the AI is pretty poor, frankly. Bouncing planes is virtually impossible.

Yes ,its for AI . I think its ridiculous the AI gunners of a bomber fire at my plane at night like in day ,they know where am i ,and like spud said the AI pilots should have a blind spot .Fighters can be more easier targets like that but its reality . I see real movies of WW2 and i see a Willcat firing at a zero and the zero doesnt move , its like hes waiting to be killed . :?

Boy, if this was ever taken care of so that one could actually bounce the AI or evade using cloud cover that would be wonderful. Smile

One would think it would be comparatively simple for Oleg and Co, to simply encode the AI to be bounceable... I mean you can effectively do it with a lot of FPS games... (FEAR, Half Life 2, and so on and so on...) its been do-able for years in other games - and why not here, where in reality, thats the like a very important tactic :roll:

Thats why I like online Smile You can bounce and be bounced all day long... like a bouncy ball.

I've set up a couple of missions on different maps, which have a lot of ground action happening.
What I've noticed is that the ground battles play out very differently if I change the time of day to night, as opposed to day.....
An example of this is an attack by German armor on allied artillery emplacements. During the day, the artillery manages to pound ten kinds of hell out of the armor, but at night, the tanks mostly get right up to the artillery, and pound them to bits...the only thing I changed in the mission was the time of day...
Just wondering what the reason for this might be, it does seem as if the ai (for ground vehicles, etc) is affected by the different visibilities.
Where would one start looking to see what causes these differences? Maybe we could find out and possibly implement the same for aircraft? I don't know.....just a thought...
