Why not just create an entirely new aircraft slot for the F4U-2? USE the data files that are used in MUAS F4U-1, and give it a new skin so the radome shows and call it the F4U-2. Its payload is more accurate than what Oleg gave the Corsar MkI.

The Corsair MKIII was the F3A-1D [Brewster (F3A) built F4U-1D)] with modified wings that were shortened to enable this aircraft to be stowed below on the hangar decks of royal navy carriers with its wings in the folded position. The F4U-1D with modified wings for the Royal Navy had two designations: Corsair MkIII - F3A-1D built by Brewster and Cosair MkIV - FG-1D built by Goodyear. Vought built neither of these two variants of the F4U-1D.

Go to Vought's own site and they list 34 F4U-2 built. Two of these were F4U-1 modified in the field.

Here is a quote from the Vought company site:

"Because Vought was heavily committed to meet schedules on other programs, arrangements were made with the Naval Aircraft Factory at Philadelphia, Pa. to convert production F4U-l's to the F4U-2 configuration. A total of 34 F4U-1's were converted to F4U-2's. Thirty two conversions were made at the Naval Aircraft Factory and two were made in the field at Rio Island, Kwajalein Atoll."[/quote]

Vought never used the designation F4U-1A. As far as Vought was concerned the F4U-1 consisted of the original framed "bird cage" canopy and R-2800-8 (no water injection) as well as the blown (Malcom hood type) canopy with less framing and the R-2800-8W that did have water injection. Vought only makes a reference that at a certain production number the F4U-1 aircraft changed its canopy and changed its engine.

The first F4U-2's were used at Munda and then were placed on carriers in 4-plane detachments, VF(N)101 was aboard two of the CV at the time of the Truk raids of Feb 1944. At Vought's site it has pictures of F4U-2's on the flight deck of Intrepid. They had the the US insignia of white bars and blue border (no red borders) and the only other markings were the squadron number painted on the landing gear cover attached directly to the gear. The white tape found on the upper fuselage was not present. I have never seen a picture of what we call a F4U-1A configured as a F4U-2, nor have I read any reference that, what we call a F4U-1A was converted at the Naval Aircraft Factory nor in the field to a F4U-2. This thread is the first reference to the F4U-1A being converted to the F4U-2 configuration that I have come across.


The F4U-5 and F4U-5N were some 40+ MPH faster than the F4U-1C (420 MPH) and some 20+ MPH faster than the F4U-4 (446 MPH) which we don't even have in the game.
