Flashing textures on the aircraft might also be a .dll issue. Over at the 1C forums, in the Il2 discussion there is a thread and link to a replacement dll that fixes this issue for many people. For most, it seems to occur with the 8000 series Nvidia cards.

Lower resolutions than native one in a TFT screen is the worst thing everybody can do if is interested in eyecandy.
The effect is worse than disable AA and AF filters, or whatever other setting in game.
Playing at 800*600 (or 640*480, worse yet) in a 19" screen with native resolution of 1280*1024 result in bad aspect, bad edges, lose of definition, etc.
Bad idea. If you don't feel the enormous diference in quality you hace to change your glasses inmediately.
Reagards.
Sorry to burst your bubble there luke but lowering resolution is simply not an option for people with LCD monitors. Less than your native resolution is very ugly and usually blurry and distorted, too. Stick with your native, and if you can't tell the difference... glasses, Lasik surgery, turn your monitors from off to on, etc.

Welcome to my necessary tweaks. The lag you describe is the reason for this guide.
