How to roll back totally without reinstall?

The files.sfs is the main file that tells the game its version number and what files to look for. When you installed the Sound Mod or the Mod Activator you actually installed an altered version of files.sfs for the game's version number that you are playing.

If you would like to go back to an unmodded version of 4.09b1m, just rename the current files.sfs for your modded install (to something like files_mod.sfs) and then move the files.sfs from the beta patch into your game directory. I think that is all you'll need to do...and you should be able to switch back and forth through minor renaming of the files.sfs

As for location of mods and how to install them, the process has evolved in only a few short months. The original Sound Mod that allows for new sounds, maps, objects, etc. installed and required a new folder named Files. Initially, all new mods went into that folder and into the appropriate subfolder and most of the time the user had to manually add lines of code to a text document named filelist.txt in the game's root folder. The first evolution came when the modders found a way to make the mods self-installing; I'm not sure if the installer edits or amends the filelist.txt or what. More recently the wrapper.dll was changed so now mods don't have to go in the Files folder AND the user doesn't have to worry about editing the filelist.txt. Basically, the mods are like 'plug and play' and are simply dropped into the game's main folder.

If you have a folder in your main directory named 'Map Mods' or something like that, I'm willing to bet that it wasn't put there by Maddox Games. Wink

Ah, yes, I forgot that the il2fb.exe was altered also for the mods to work. I have one desktop shortcut mapped to a version named il2.exe (a copy of the original il2fb.exe) and another shortcut mapped to il2fb.exe, which runs the modded version of the game. So I simply change out files.sfs and then launch the shortcut I want: modded game or unmodded game.

So in short, to revert to vanilla 4.09b1m, remove "mods" folder reinstall the backed up files, (for once I followed instructions on making BU!!!) then I should be going again.
Modding: install new wrapper.dll, start the .exe mods, first eng_sound mod_ .9x then go on to the rest, right?

The easiest thing to do is just use the SWITCHER that's available:

(The link is inoperative)

Allows you to do all of that from the desktop with a mouseclick.

If you're having problems with certain mods, especially ones that don't come as self-installing executables, it would be best to tell us which ones they are specifically. Usually the mod comes with some kind of instructions (even if only in the forum thread you downloaded from) but there are a few that may need additional explanation.

MOD INSTALL PROCESS FOR BEGINNERS

I recommend to install each file into a temporary folder (I use C:\Downloads) and copy files manually into the default 'C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\' folder, so you'll see what files you installing.
To clean up your older install, delete 'filelist.txt' and 'files' folder.

1st step:

Install the QuickLaunchPack.
http://files.filefront.com/mods+4+409b1 ... einfo.html

It includes the smaller mods I tested and using, such as:
- FabianFred's damage mod v2 (you can sink smaller ships with gunfire, etc.)
- Sojka's, Hunin's and Cataoulak's gunsight reticles (great)
- Fly'zo IL-2 Forgotten Battles brown graphic user interface
- A mod which prevents AAA from shooting parachutes (fps gain)
- my pilot skins mod
- QuickMissionBuilder mod v2 (update possible, v3 was released)*
- Stuka wheel mod (historic) for G-1 and D-5
- my new Transport, Oil tanker and Trawler ship skins
- CanonUK's Bf-109 ordnance skins and Phase3's allied drop tank skins

if you want to deactivate any of them, rename for example 'MODS/QMB' to 'MODS/-QMB' and it wont be loaded.

2nd step :

Install 4.09 mod patch, to overwrite files is ok.
(The link is inoperative) file=409_MOD_b1m.exe

3rd step:

3a. Soundmod v093
(The link is inoperative) file=ENG_Sound_mod_Version_093.exe
It uses the old 'files' folder, you need to rename 'files' to SOUNDMOD and put it into MODS.
You dont need the other files included, only those inside the 'files' folder!
This method works also with other mods, which still use the 'files' folder.

3a/2. You can update 0.93 with new dive sounds:
(The link is inoperative) file=Dive_Sounds_For_Sound_Mod_v9_3_Only_V2.exe

3b. AAA mod pack planes
(The link is inoperative)

3c. Upgraded cockpits
(The link is inoperative)
http://sg1.es/data/SG1_Afdn_Bf-109F-2.zip

3d. Default Skinpacks & SKIN MOD
(The link is inoperative)

3e. AAA Community Map Pack
(The link is inoperative)
(will give you an all.ini file to expand FMB's map list + new maps - this is what you need to do when adding a new map)

3f. Default map upgrade pack
(The link is inoperative)
(no all.ini included because this pack only retextures the stock maps)

______________

I addition you can install new maps too:
viewforum.php?f=36
Malta, Sadegna,Falklands available, lot of other maps are wip so prepare for a blast Smile

*add to conf.ini's end to use QMB new maps

Quote:[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=Balaton
Custom2=Singapore
Custom3=Net5Summer
Custom4=BoB
Custom5=Slovakia
Custom6=Bessarabia
Custom7=MTO

If I would put all the files listed above in one pack it would be well above 2 Gb.

Known Problems:

- Download version of the game doesnt supports mods.
Solution is the dvd version.

- If russian text appears in Dgen campaigns.
Solution here: (The link is inoperative)

- If game freezes at 5% with soundmod.
Solution is to set sound sample rate to 44100 Khz.

- If you hate the mods.
Solution is to delete everything and reinstall the game.
