Thank you very much for looking at this modders. Perhaps if anyone wanted to add a 2 stage 2speed Merlin variant of the Mosquito you could replace the existing engine nacelles with a Spitfire IX or VIII's nose. Pity the DM was only one sided Cry

...if the mossie was tried with the VIII's nose, for example, replacing the standard nacelles, you'd obviously loose the dampners... Perhaps the resident magician Mr Ranwers The Magnificant, can try the nacelles out Smile

BTW, McFly, you got a pic of that spec'd mossie?

There are a few alternatives that would give us different models. A low altitude Mosquito like we have without the dampeners could use a spitfire VIII or Seafires enginge shape, and a later high altitude mosquito with 2 stage 2 speed merlin could use a P51's engine nacelle. Obviously this probably would be really difficult to work but its what I think would most look like it in IL2 franken plane terms

low alt version - no flame dampeners

High altitude version

At the risk of sounding stupid, how come the mossie only has five exhaust stubs instead of six :?

Lol good spot, I have no idea! It had a 12 cylinder engine - very similar to the Merlins in Spitfire/Lancaster ect but its cooling arrangement is described to be 'reversed' allowing its radiators to be wing mounted. Maybe its something to do with this or maybe 2 stubs are ducted in to one or maybe one exaust on each rear bank is ducted along the wings to avoid icing?

Idea

Is it possible to perhaps swap over those hideous spinners for something which is a tade smoother? Perhaps the Mustangs? or another which are nice and smooth...? It isnt a dramatic change, but something that I personally, and more than likely a lot of others, would be very grateful for... Smile
