actors.static tool

Can't edit in FMB huge maps like Crimea or Finland gulf? Then you need this small program.

Say, you want to change your map layout in some area... Just define that area by upper left and lower right corner coordinates.
Then you extract that actors.static and get a number of out*.txt files.
Run the program and input the coordinates. The program will create number of files:

outBuildings_1.txt and outBuildings_2.txt,
outChiefs_1.txt and outChiefs_2.txt,
outChiefsRoad_1.txt and outChiefsRoad_2.txt,

where *_1.txt's contain CUT area and *_2.txt the rest.

Now you can place your *_1.txt files in a separate folder and create your new actors.static, which is much smaller in size and thus loadable in FMB Smile .
Having finished that part of your new map, you can combine it with the rest. Just extract your new (edited and saved in FMB) actors.static and simply merge outBuildings_2.txt and outBuildings.txt and so on... Then you create again your huge actors.static, but now with your own modifications Big Grin

Note: outNStationary and outWing are not processed as these are pretty small and contain takeoff points and bridges info. You can easily manage those objects in FMB.

Can you clarify how one gets these coordinates? :?

Put an object (whatever) in FMB at athese place, and read coordinates in .mis file using notepad.

Brilliant tool!

Hmm I did that before using the following

[NStationary]
0_Static vehicles.stationary.Stationary$Wagon1 1 9850.65 94805.44 360.00 0.0
1_Static vehicles.stationary.Stationary$Wagon1 1 11502.05 92762.38 360.00 0.0

The prog said: Enter upper left corner's X (not sure which part of the first string of numbers to put in here).

The next line asks for the Y. Then it asks for the lower right X/Y

Each time I try it, I get an error message and a crash. The area itself is quite small. Just an airfield. :?

Oviously you didn't extract actors.static into out*.txt files. The program doesn't check if the files are present.
And one more thing to consider: you have to specify LOWER LEFT corner first, then UPPER RIGHT. It's my fault, sorry... The program was written for internal use and has no checks and whatever... Big Grin

"Then you extract that actors.static and get a number of out*.txt files. "

That bit? There seems to be a measure of ambiguity to it :?

None of that! Big Grin Everything is clearly explained in actors tool's readme, right?

The trouble is Bee...that for normal folks like us...it is all a bit baffling

when you already know how to do something...it is easy....and you cannot understand how others cannot see how easy it is...... but this is the same with all things in life

We need real 'Dummies Guides' for this stuff....

I'm far from stupid.....have no problems with the FMB/FMB+/Tools FMB ... and once I DO understand, I can usually explain to others in detail how it works..... I do have an IQ of 140

Just cannot get the hang of the actors static tool...let alone this one....although i'd like to
