Manipulating meshes

BEFORE

just a quick view to show what i removed to manipulate a mesh in order to remove certain 3d data

once i deleted certain data (changed with empty chars) it deleted & removed parts of the mesh.
im just trying to show you here in the picture what i did to remove

i used a simple hex editor to do this & im sure using a hex editor it may well be possible to even change the shape of the mesh

jolly changing the shape of it, would it just be like hawk's stretching of the nose and the rudder on the mkXIV?

That's stretching meshes in the plane itself. This is changing the shape of a mesh.

through process of elimination.
Once you know where the 3d data is located you can remove any part you want.
for example i could have removed just the nose cone or i could have removed just one of the blades & left the nose cone intact if i wanted to.

Mr. Jolly this is very interesting, can you remove component file names from the mesh file so that they are not calling for mat files?

I have a situation where in order to get a certain gunsight I needed to use a [body] mesh which calls for a large number of files that I don"t want.

The result is that I have a bunch of mat files that are not wanted but need to be in my mod as place markers. I can render the unwanted parts invisible, but if they could be eliminated that would be better.

When I try to remove file name the mesh doesn't work anymore. If I were to remove the file name AND the 3D coding would it work?

i have been using a hex editor to create a fair few of the mods here for some time. using a hex editor you can easily modify or change the name of the file the mesh asks for & then create a the new file - this helps when you are creating new gun positions & you dont want it to conflict with another when you are sharing files with another gun position. Its hard for me to explain but i recomend you download a free simple hex editor & maybe play around with the files for il2

i wish i knew as much as you do! lol i dont know what i can tell you really other than what ive written here allready - i just slowly worked out where abouts the 3d data was contained but other than that my knowledge is very limitedcompared to you Smile

a) What mod you did?
b) As you said above, how to change the gun position(and in which file).
