P47-D Reworked Gunsights
#1

This is the beta release reworked P47 gunsights mod. Work continues on this project, but I would like to get this preliminary version onto some other computers to see if I overlooked anything major.

The sight lines of the Razorback versions have been moved to the right to clear the center canopy frame and also a bit up to get better forward visibility. The gunnery feels true to me, but I would like to get some feedback.

The new Mk8 sight for the bubbletop P47s is in the same position as the old one but is of better graphic quality.

Seems to be working fine mate.. but I do have to make different adjustments to my seat to see clearly when using 6dof.. By the way, it's working in all versions apart from the D27.. the late bubbletop works ok though..

Thanks for the quick feedback Trooper. When you say the D27 doesn't work, do you mean that the cockpit doesn't show up at all, or that the old gunsight is still there?

I should mention also that if you have the K-14 gunsight mod active, this may give you the old sight on the D27 and the K-14 gunsight on the D-Late.

Also I want as much feed back as possible on 6DOF compatability so thanks.

The Razorback reposition will be more appreciated by those who do not use 6DOF regularly. That said I want to make sure that I don't mess something up for users of 6DOF. So I'm very interested in the performance of the new sight using 6DOF.

I developed this mod with 4.08m game version and sound mod version .92
if anyone has difficulties with the gunsight mod, please mention which game and sound mod version you are using.

Thanks

Because the sight is offset on the early version, it's a bit like using the gunsight on the 109 when using 6dof..
I can usualy leave my seat in a set position when switching from the 109 to another aircraft, but I find when switching from the early P-47 to the bubble top. I have to raise the seat to get my normal view back.. It's not a major drama, but thats the only difference to my 6dof gaming..
Ref the K-14 site, I had de-activated it, and the new sight is fine on both early P-47's and the 'late' bubble top version.. But the D27 shows the standard ingame sight.. the rest of the cockpit does show by the way!

I extracted the folder to my "mods" folder ( I do not have the K14 mod) but I'm not seeing a new sight in the P47 D-27? What could I be doing wrong?

Hmmmm. I don't know whats going on Murph. This seems to be a developing trend. Do you see the new sight when you run the P47D-Late?

Actually, I did most of the gunsight development with the D27, so I thought that would be the least likely to have a problem. I will study the problem.

Is the new sight showing up for anyone out there for the P47-D27 ?

Troubleshooting findings:
The only way that I have been able to reproduce the effect of P47D Late with new sight,
P47D-27 with old sight on my computer is by having both the K14 sight mod and the P47gunsightbeta mod active at the same time.
Further the the K14 mod folder has to occur after the new sight mod alphabetically to get this combination of results. Still, Murph does not even have the K14 mod, so there must be another mod that you guys have that I do not that is producing this effect.

One thing you could try is to rename the new gunsight folder to something like "agunsite" to make sure that it is the first folder read. Check which gunsight comes up for the D-Late and for the D27. Then rename the new gunsight folder to "zgunsite" to make sure that it is the last folder read. Again check which gunsights come up. If you do not get the same results for both names, then there is a mod folder somewhere that is interfering. Sad

Poncho,

Great job on the sights. Much better.

I couldn't get the new P-47D-27 gunsight to load either. At first I thought it may have been the reticle mod because it loads from the same cockpit folder, but that wasn't it.

The problem I found was with the Acemaker mod. The K-14 Acemaker mod came out before the new wrapper system was introduced and if you installed it using the old Files folder and filelist.txt method, the coded files are still in your Files folder. There are 10 of them hiding in there. They're the same ones listed with the 3do folder in your MODS folder now. You have to delete them from your Files folder otherwise they will still try to load the Acemaker mod even if you delete or "-" it from your MODS folder.

It's late, I hope that makes sense.

Works great here, now just to make it compatible with the K14 for D27late and i'll be a happy camper Big Grin

Is this compatible with the brighter US Sigths distributed here in the Forum ??

Yes, they are compatible since poncho's mod doesn't include a Reticle.tga file.

Rgr that, the reticle mod was tested thoughout the development process because I like that one very much myself. Regarding the failure of the new sight to appear on the D27, Catahoulak9's
analysis above makes sense to me based on what I see on my computer. When I get the bugs worked out of this the final release will have:

A) N3 sight on the P47-D10
B) Mk8 sight on the P47-D22
C)Mk8 sight on the P47-D27
D) K-14 sight on the P47D late

Thanks all for the Feedback

Just downloaded it... Brilliant work Poncho...

Initially I had the same problems (no new sight on P47D-25) but after running P47/K14 uninstall everything is perfect. The Razorbacks are now usable and look great.

Thanks Poncho...
