Post in this thread to say thanks to the modders ;)

Guys, I have played IL2 since the original and have loved the game.

I've bought many joysticks, rudder pedals, all versions of Track IR and upgraded my PC more times than I care to remember to keep up to speed with this game.

Then, about a year-and-a-half ago, things at 1C went quiet as they moved into full production of their MIA BoB:SoW, it will come, but when? Who knows?

Then came the 'terrible' news that the sfs files had been cracked, by those 'meddling kids'...nooooo, the game was going to be porked/hacked/unplayable...those terrible, terrible hackers!

In fact, as is always the way, it was and is very short-sighted scare-mongering. I understand the concern for online play, but it does seem that most servers and players have stuck to the modded and un-modded servers, and I think this comes from a maturity shown by most flight-sim enthusiasts.

So "The Mod!"

Well, after posting numerous requests for enhancements on the Oleg's Ready Room forum, all of which have been ignored because "the sounds are hard-coded", "it's not possible to do that", "we cannot model that plane due to legal problems", etc, etc. Well what happens?

A group of good-for-nothing hackers (their words, not mine), come along and say "hey you know what? This can be done"

So over the last year we've seen exhaust flames from engine start-up, tyre screech on landing, a huge amount of engine sounds added, new maps with correct names+loads in development, cockpits (ok not all historic) added to planes so that B-17 ' (one of the most requested patch additions) and B-24's can be flown, cockpits added to 'non-flyable' planes, gun-smoke from firing 50-cals, cloud-layers, smoke draw distance increased and improved looks for it too, detailed cockpits being created for planes that 'can't be done', for me the P-47 is at last getting the make-over it has long deserved with accurate gunsite and new meshes and TGA files for the interior.

These are all being done by guys who have a passion for the game, which I feel left 1C a long-time back.

I have posted this thread just to say a great big thanks to all those involved in the modding community, for bringing IL2 back to the status it deserves, and spending time in listening to other enthusiasts on this forum (and others), who when it comes down to it, don't hate IL2 and so they want to hack it, but they love IL2, and want it to be the best it can be.

So Ladies and Gents......S! and may your work continue unchallenged and with the support of the community behind you.

Cheers, SM

As a Semi-Undermodder I am not one of those lucky persons who deserve this honour. I am way under Jolly's, Hellzone's, Tim's and Hawk's leven(please forgive me if I didn't name someone). I think that they really deserve this topic.

Hit the nail on the head there, Spidermonkey! Like you, I've been flying this sim since nearly the beginning, and have spent more money on equipment and comp upgrades than on any other hobby. As many others have said, these mods have breathed new life into the game. Two years ago this week, I stopped playing IL2 and visiting the UbiZoo cold turkey, because the game was getting stale and the the PTO was so underdeveloped (and R/L issues). Then, sort of spontaneously, I started checking the UbiZoo again last October to see what was new and stepped into the Great Mod Debate (more like Great Mod Bashing), discovered 4.09b and AAA, and have been back it for 3-4 hours a night and more on weekends since. I visit this forum several times a day at work and more at home, but only check UbiZoo or 1C once a week at most. (It's fun to read the continued mod bashing, with the occasional posting from persons who are weakening in their resolve to avoid the mods at all cost, but just won't quite commit.)

There are so many mods and re-textured and new maps, we're in an embarassment of riches here. I jump around from PTO to MTO to ETO to Eastern Front and can't get focused on staying in one place or one plane for any length of time (I'm a 100% offliner.) Vive la Mods!

It's a great bunch of guys here--modders and "moddees" alike.

Cheers to all!

I will say THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HARD WORK also.

Just look to the left, and you can see, I'm very happy.

Yesterday, I was on a Server with CRT=2 Settings...for 10 Seconds.
Holy Cr*p, how could I fly there with this sh... stock sound so long?
I will never ever connect on thouse Servers.

Special THX to AAA-Staff, brings good innovation to the old SIM.

Like so many others in here, I have spent thousands of dollars upgrading my computers, adding TrackIR, buying TM Cougar(s) and the mods that go with it, all because I love this game. I have been flying IL-2 since it came out as a demo, and shortly after it hit the shelves I left WarBirds without ever looking back. So now, 5-6 years later, this wonderful game of Oleg's is getting a little long in the tooth. With the promise from Oleg of a much better mouse trap just around the corner getting a bit stale, these MODS couldn't have come at a better time. They have insured that IL-2 will remain on my Hard Drive for many years to come, even after SOW comes out.

So, THANK YOU MrJolly, and all of your team. Thank you, everyone in The Slot team, and thank you FC and Archie for all your hard work. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this great sim, making it a much better one. Big Grin

And to all of you who are going to add to this thread, please go to the top of the site and make a donation to really show your thanks! Put your money where your keyboard is.
