Hi guys,

Any chance of a mod allowing the changing of aircraft whilst in flight/game?

At the moment we have to press ESC then go into the main screen to change - would be nice to have the ability to change a/c like in FSX etc!

I wouldn't like that. One flies in a Bf-110, a Spit comes, one changes to Bf-109, shoots the spit, B-17 comes, back to Bf-110.

The 1st "etc" that pops to mind is Lomac, where you can jump into another cockpit, offline at least...never used Lomac online.

Lomac has other cool features, like re-arm & re-fuel and Lomac was based on the Il2 code so it shouldn't be impossible. For eg. the realistic water in Il2 was first seen in Lomac, then made better and added to Il2 (if I re-call right).

1st problem with this idea, like all mod ideas, is there are already more ideas than modders. At this point it seems clear to me why so many things never saw the light of day in Il2, so much to do, so little time.

But I wouldn't hold my breath, as the dog fighters will not let it happen even if someone smart enough, with the spare time wanted to make the mod.

Anyway I'd like it, just like I'd like a re-arm re-fuel feature and if I didn't like it I just wouldn't install it

I'm fully in support of this idea - been trying to get Oleg to incorporate it into that other fictional sim, BOB:SOW, but I don't hold too much hope...
The main reason for me in wanting a mod like this (offline only) is to avoid the kind of mission where I spend 45 minutes getting to a target, only to be sniped by some AAA from miles away(believe me, this kind of scenario happens all too frequently in IL-2!! :evil: ). It would be great to be able to switch to another aircraft, maybe limited to your wing/squadron?
For me, it's a feature I'd like to see, but I won't press the issue...
There's so many good thing happening on this site, I'm gonna be busy for a loooong time... :lol:

pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't this require for all cockpits ( for present planes in mission) to be loaded by game when starting the mission ? Does engine supports that ?

yep, fly_zo, that's something I'd thought about as well.... not sure if the engine is able to handle this kind of feature, but still... it would be nice if someone were to investigate this option a little more...

well if someone gets that much deep into game code ..... please fix the AI behavior first ( no more snipers !), pretty please with cherry on top

LOMAC was built on the Flanker series code by Eagle Dynamics IIRC, which has absolutely nothing to do with the IL-2 series. Completely different flight and graphics engines.

The only thing they have in common is they both were built in Russia.
