Want to replace default textures for maps, NOOB :(
#1

Hello!

I've done a fw 190 cockpit mod and the cloud mod and now I'm trying to replace the default landscape textures.

I tried to do so after reading a tutorial about texture replacing.

So I started out on the crimea map, but there must be something i have missed, because after the whole "load.ini" and "filelist.txt" editing, my crimea map won't load.

My goal is to basically make a set of more realistic textures from scratch that everyone can use for their maps.

It seems tho that the simplest tutorial won't work for me.

I copied the crimea map from one of the SFS files, and started to edit a tecture of a village.

I put the map in the "files" folder, and then i tried to put it in the MODS folder, (following the instructions of the tutorial) but nothing seems to work. as soon as I start the crimea map in quick mission builder the game says something similar to: "fail load.ini : lanscape"

even if I have the same path to the exact same texture (edited the texture and gave it the same name as the stock one)

Is there a thread I might have missed?

if anyone has time, please write something here, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks from a mod-hungry artist

A lot of new maps being made feature custom textures. The Darwin, Australia project comes to mind, Big_Yamato's NEI map also, and I believe canon's BOB online and English Channel map.

Then again they arent replacing old textures, they created new ones with new paths and names. But asking them how they did it would be a good place to start.

This is what my Okinawa map looks like. I didn't do the mod but I made it replace the default okinawa map tho.

Maybe you forgot to include it in all.ini?

Meister, for fast debugging the best would be to present here in greater detail what you did (including names of files). Just one thing, if you use the current wrapper.dll there is no need for filelist.txt anymore.

Hey gents thansk for all the replies,

ok, I put the crima map in my MODS folder: MODS\MAPMODS\maps\crimea

I put all the textures for crimea here: MODS\MAPMODS\maps\_Tex (nd then \land or \forest etc)

I edited the load.ini file to have the links to the texture say i.e this: maps/_Tex/forest/summer/Wood0.tga instead of only /forest/summer/Wood0.tga

I also tried as far back as this MODS/MAPMODS/maps/_Tex/forest/summer/Wood0.tga instead of only /forest/summer/Wood0.tga

but nothing works,

Is there something else I should check?

thanks !

I believe all he did was create a new folder full of textures and just replaced the entries in the load.ini files.

You have to first replicate the file structure of the game, in this case it would be maps/_tex/land/whatever. Then just dump in your textures, and open up a map load.ini and replace to your heart's content.

If you haven't figured it already,in load.ini it should be for all textures:

forest/summer/Wood0.tga

no _tex or maps in the path

http://files.filefront.com/Handys+Crime ... einfo.html

you can use this as a template for your work

pls try to match your textures with Slovakia colors so they could be mixed
