HDR/Bloom lighting mod
#1

I don't know if you saw it on DCS BS (LockOn ru) forums but, there is a mod for HDR/Bloom lighting. The mod is made third party and apparently not made especially for Lock On but it is running in DirectX.

I thought I would give you a heads-up here so maybe there is a guy who can understand what this mode does and how it works and maybe he can implement it in Il-2... maybe even OpenGl  .

Here is the creator site:

And here is the mod for lock on (basically is the same dll for every game)

and some pics with the effect in Lock On

Big problem, IL2 works on OpenGL, not DirectX, maybe if we could have some good and knowledgeable programmer for this . . .

The problem is, you'd have to sacrifice the Perfect settings for this...

going to give her a whirl in LOMAC tomorrow - but I wouldnt think it wouldnt be toooooo hard to implement into our favorite wee girl Wink

il2 only uses a directx wrapper over opengl, so it's not the same thing

Actually IL2 engine runs on OpenGL, and what we see in DirectX mode is OpenGL with DirectX wrapper (If I remember correctly one of Oleg's interview given long time ago) and unfortunately it seems it is DirectX 7, very low on graphics comparing with DirectX 8 or 9.

Anyway, Zaelu, thank you on this crucial find.

This actually works in DirectX mode

Although it is obvious it is need tweakining (there is file generated for that). You cant see it so good in screenshots, you have to try it. Sky is beautiful.

We have bloom in the skies Big Grin

Now, Boris (guy who made that) said on his site that it is possible to be done also in HLSL, I think that is OpenGL's shading language, so maybe we could even could have this even better in OpenGL.

Is there some volunteer to contact Boris in Russian? Big Grin

Correction

I see now, screenshots made with "in game" shows nothing, effect is not present. I will use something else like fraps for them.

The more I try; more I am in love with this, it's like flying in Photoshop, beautiful. So soft and 40's. Light is beautiful, and I didn't even touch the rest of the settings. Smile

We must have this for OpenGL and perfect.

Tried it in LOMAC just now, and its simply wonderfull!

What would be the possibility of gettin it to work with the OpenGL?

Maybe initially it would be possible with the help of the creator of this... DX mod to "port" IL-2 perfect settings completely to DirectX...

then maybe a OpenGl guru can activate the same Dx calls (or whatever they are, I am no programmer) in standard OpenGl.

I like OpenGl more too Smile .

It is wonderful even with the directx, but no doubt that with OpenGL and perfect it will be perfect. I will write an email to the author later. Big Grin

Now I will fly a little more over fly_zo’s Normandy in Liberator, it also added reflection and depth in cockpit, and the look from the bely turret is amazing.
