P47-D Reworked Gunsights
#16

I tried using the K14 uninstaller, but still no joy. The sights for the razorbacks look great, though. Catahoulak9, can you tell me which specific files I should be deleting?
I currently have two "files" folders; one in the game's main directory, and another (renamed Z_files) in my Mods folder.

Murph, do I understand right that you are not getting the the new MkVIII sight on either the D27 or the D Late?
I think that even if you have the K14 file issue you should still see the new sight on the P47D Late.
Do me a favor and re-download my gunsight mod, if you haven't already done so. I feel like something must have gotten lost in the transfer.

Murph,

It's the same 10 files with the long names and numbers in the K14 mod. The first one is 8A95ACBDC0760E4. Look in your original K-14 Acemaker download and they are all listed with the 3do folder. You will have to find and delete each one in both of your files folders.

You also may want to consider consolidating the two files folders into one because I believe it still reading both. I had only one in my Mods folder but have moved it back to the main directory to be able to use the new planes auto-installer.

I'm going to go through my files folder one day and clean it up but I afraid it will be a very long process comparing these cryptic files with the original downloads to know which ones to delete. I'm sure there are many conflicts hiding in there just waiting to pop up.

I'm confused by all these files folders :?: . I have a files.sfs in the main il2 directory which cannot be easily edited anyway and thats all. And I've not run across anything that didn't work. I thought the need for apending/editing files went out with the new wrapper? When I download anything that has the filelist appender stuff in it, I just skip that step and drop the new mod folder directly into my mods folder. I hope I'm not misunderstanding what your saying here, but it sounds like you have something like a filelist, which is redundant if you have the new wrapper. Please advise.

My files folder is from my original installation before the new wrapper system was introduced. I still have a few old things running from it. I don't have a filelist.txt file anymore. Any new mods I add using the MODS folder.

There was a lot of confusion when the new wrapper system was introduced. I think we were trying to make it much more complicated than it actually was. It was recommended here that after you created the new MODS folder you copy your original files folder into it so your old mods would still work under the new system. Adding to and changing the filelist.txt file wasn't necessary with the new wrapper design and was deleted.

Anyone adding the K-14 Acemaker using the new wrapper system placed them in the MODS folder where they can easily be disabled with a "-". The problem comes in only if you installed the K-14 Acemaker before the new wrapper and still have that old files folder in either your MODS folder or the IL-2 main directory. The K-14 uninstaller may not find the files folder to delete the files and they are still being loaded from it.

I honestly don't know if you even need a files folder if you're running a new sound mod installation.

A one point I tried removing the files folder from the main directory and found the game CTD'd a 60% loading so I guess it's still necessary.

I agree TShark. The reasons I left the Oleg Ranch are, in order:

1. No Flyable Avenger
2. Unwillingness to Update the P-47
3. Incomplete Pacific Theatre Maps
4. A desire to have infantry units for mission building.

When I ran across this site I couldn'd believe it. Confusedhock:

I did find a glitch in the MkVIII site mod with the damage modelling. When the sight is damaged the undamaged one doesn't disappear like it is supposed to. It's an easy fix but it slipped through quality control. Sorry Cry

Oh yeah -One other reason for leaving was the missing island just North of France that you see on some maps.

G'day Poncho,

I was able to download the new beta. At the moment I am concentrating on the D-10 only. I removed the old files and installed the new. The hier.him has worked but I still get the frame ghosting. There is also the danger label on the right hand side floor and the Artificial Horizon line seems to have the heading band texture added to it.

If you could include a file list in the rar it would help in flushing out old files until the Alpha version is finalised.

Cheers,

Taurus.

Taurus,

I've been trying to edit the gunsight mesh file that is causing the ghosting. I've located the parts that code the gunsight and determined that most of the ghosting is due to the donor canopy mesh. In the end I hope to have a redone mesh file without all of the unwanted parts.

Nice mod! It makes the razor back P-47s useful at last.

Couple of things:

1. I get the same gun sight in both the D10 and D22. It's the square one;
2. I get the new, round gun sight in the D27;
3. I get the same, new, round gun sight in the D27-late, not the K14. In this cockpit, when I switch to 'gyro only', the reticle disappears.

I have installed your sight mod, and the K14 mod, in that order. It's no great problem to me not having the K14, but I understood you'd sorted the problems with compatibility and that it should be there.

The new sights look great, though.

Thanks.

Ratsack, I haven't got the new version up yet. The one you have is the first beta. Hang tight for another week and I think the new version with all of the sights will be ready to go.

Poncho,

Ah, I jumped the gun! No worries then.

Love the razor backs now. Been setting up QMBs over Normandy at 7500 m with lots of B17s and Me 109s. Big Grin

cheers,
