Big FPS prob,pls help :(
#1

hey guys,I thought I'd [post this here it seems to be a gd place to ask(and there seems to really be some experts on this site)

Basicaly what is happening is that whenever I play any game i can play for about 5-6 minutes with no problems at all then I'll get a massive FPS drop(at least half if not more) for about 1 minute then it'll be fine for another 5-6 then again and repeat over and over till i quit out of every game i play before i break another keyboard in frustation Sad

I'v got a decent comp(although not great i know)
P4 3.4
2 gig ramm
ATI x1950 w/512 AGP (running CCC8.3)
SB Audigy 2ZS (A000) sound card

my hard drive kinda full, could that be the prob?(although I'v just gone through and deleted a whole bunch of games that i dont play any more)

I'm at my wits end as I'v just gotten the spit 1 mod(awsome!) and the new FW-190 cockpits(very awsome) but cant enjoy them(or anything else) ATM Sad

Any help would be hugely appreciated, cheers in advance Smile

Hm, I had a similar problem.

Someone suggested this program:

http://alacritypc.kensalter.com/

Basically it shuts down every process on your PC not needed, so that your system can concentrate on the game.

It seems to work pretty well.

I would more check the temperature... It look like your CPU or GPU is going to hot. Try to open your case and to leave it open to see if it improve stutter time...

cheers psy,I actually leave the case open all the time as where i live(north queensland, australia) it's damm hot and humid most of the time :? ) plus it seems to happen only every ferw minutes, then fine then slow then fine and so on,I'm startin think maybe my hard drive is maybe on the way out(im not sure if that would cause it but its seems posible) but Im gunna give the heat sink a clean and put some fresh compound between the CPU and heatsink just in case(prob not a bad idea anyway)

cheers ill let ya know how it went, cheers for the tip Smile

try to keep the case closed because the case acts like a wind tunnel while dissipating more heat

There is no magic in there, as computer technics is my job since 10 years...

I m glad that you found out the problem, now try to apply Gentlekiller advice and ad some 120mm fan in your case to dissipate the heat. Both of them the one in the front and the other in the back should blow the same direction. (Front should blow in, Rear Should blow out, this way it will work like a "wind tunnel").

thats how i designed my PC, with 2 120mm fans, power supply with 120mm fan(yes, huge), and 120mm CPU cooler, and 80mm graphics card cooler, 3 exhaust fans and 2 intake fan

you actually want lower pressure inside the case because the air will move more freely and faster thru than just ramming the air in

wow thats some serious fanage,i think this week I'll be of the comp shop to check out some fan options for my case,I have a fan at both ends of my case(blowing the same direction thank god) and Im goiung to put the cover back and see how it runs, although would a little fan pushing air through the spare slots at the back help a little ? thanks a million guys!!
