This could be fun to do. Of course it had to be fictive. Gladiators for RAF and so. Does anyone have any info about this Forgotten Battle? Links and Stuff like that. I been in Kenya and Somaliland (few short tours as a photojournalist), so i know little bit about how terrain and textures should look.

Fictive?

In 1936 the Abyssinian airforce consisted of 2 Potez25s (with French Pilots). AFAIK these saw no action during the Italian occupation.

The East African Campaign marked the beginning of the SOE at its onset. Gladiators Hawks and Hurricanes of the SAAF played a major part in the success of the campaign.

I did this a while back ( Was map23 on NakaNePono Coop Server - Vanilla only)

Good idea.

But you must have the Vickers Wellesley of which there were 100 in service with the RAF in Africa.
These were once the holder of the long distance flying record with a flight if 7162 miles from Egypt to Australia. They were used for bombing in the early battles in East Africa then relegated to reconnaissance as more modern types were introduced.

This was done Pre- mod days , so a more representative set of flyables could be included now

eg Hawk, Blenheim, Cant , Ju52 (used by SAAF and as SM for Italy)

Map based on KhalkinGol so I guess Campaign place names could be added on map now.

Still an E Africa map would be nice.

I was thinking about this area.
EDIT:
Here we go again! 8) I just might reached the famous Point Of No Return...
I have 1000Confused slides from Africa. Magazines paid all the films back in 97-98. (Some of the photos are too nasty to watch. Refugee camps and starving people from Eritrea, Somalia and even Ethiopia). Sad
Anyways, I might find some landscape reference pictures for this map.

I was thinking about this map from a long time... Smile
But there is a really strong lack of Italian side planes: only CR.42 can be used, but there were also CR.32s as fighters, it was planned to send some Reggiane Re.2000 G.A. (Grande Autonomia) directly from Lybia but that project was retired, SM.79 as bombers, but also SM.81 and, at early stage, Ca.133, IMAM Ro.37 for recon/light bomber role and SM.82 for heavy transport.
Only SM.81 can be replaced by Ju-52, and only as transport plane, Eastern African front was the only one where Cant Z.1007 hasn't been used...
If we have had at least Avia B.534 and S-328, they could replace CR.32 and Ro.37... Sad

We might not have accurate planes, but what we have is lots of imagination. So this map is not gonna be 1:1 true to history. That'll had to wait till we can add new planes and objects. I'm doing these maps mainly for my self. Its real relaxing after hard day at the work. Thats why my maps must be small Cry otherwise they never get finished...

It is a start anyway! It is not big. It is not small. And once again, as is based to sandsofTime map, it will be MM, Uberdemon mission generator and DGC compatible! Big Grin

This is getting nore and more interresting:
From Official SAAF history:
"East Africa
Equipped with a few squadrons of Gloster Gladiators, Hawker Hurricanes, Furies, Hartbeest and JU86s, the SAAF took on an Italian air component comprising nearly 300 modern aircraft. By the end of the campaign, the SAAF pilots had destroyed 71 Italian aircraft in the air and many more on the ground. In addition, the had struck at innumerable railways, convoys and supply dumps in interdiction sorties in support of the ground forces. SAAF losses during the East African campaign were 79 pilots and air crew killed and five missing. "
I quess i had to make railways too...
This gonna be Helluva dogfight map from real forgotten battle (at least from Scandinavian point of view)
