The next question is, what do the other people online see on your Corsair? Do they see the ugly white star, or the nice one you made? Magpie, does mat manager work like that too? I mean, does it effect what others online see, or just you?

will only work on your machine - meaning only you see the new markings.

So even if you're online, and your buddy is in a USAAF Corsair Mk1, and he doesnt have mat manager installed, you'll still see the nice new markings on his plane (if you have mat manager, or the equivelent of this mod - one of the many different varients of it).

Hmm, sarcasm.

But you are correct, I have used Mat Manager. I know what the results are (what I see) when I use it. I know it replaces the stock markings, but how it does it (nuts and bolts of its workings) is a mystery to me. I did know that I could edit/replace (and I did) the whitestar1.tga that got put into my regiments folder by Mat Manager on my stock IL-2 1946 as well as "faded" and "faded2", but as I have consistently asserted all along in this thread, I did not want to use the Mat Manager with the MOD, at least not at this point in time.

If you read your post in its whole, you will see how it comes across as being rude. As for the folders, I did not know the exact names - YOU however already had that information, its the same path you went through to find the original file you modified :roll:

Dude, you really need to relax and understand a few simple dynamics of this place. There has been a history of conflict here - people arent as willing to roll over and let someone be rude to them anymore.

I was trying to be of help - you were rude; I answered with a little sarcasm, and with an answer to your problem - which if you actually looked at the other mods of this type, or low and behold, how Mat Manager works, you would have figured it out.

Mat Manager has always supported the use of custom, self made markings. Always has. Thus why I suggested it. Simple. Follow the instructions how to. I've done it. Was simple. Had the markings I wanted, made and transfered into the game with 15 minutes.

Perhaps, for your future reference, you should change your tact when people are trying to help you. I bet you spent as much time writing that pathetic post above, as it would have taken you to actually do it the easy way - the same way people have been doing for years.

I will continue to be of help to YOU if I can in the future, despite this, but understand people here are alot more forth coming with assistance, general help and tips, if you arent rude.

As RAF_Magpie stated you only see what you have installed on your machine regardless of whether it is using the stock whitestar1.tga, editing the whitestar1.tga or using IL-2 Mat Manager markings.

If I select a F4U-1 (Corsair MkI) aircraft and select USN or USMC for the country and have markings turned on I will see whatever skin I chose with the new whitestar1.tga. If you joined my server and had download skins turned on and markings turned on you would see the skin I chose after it downloaded to you and whatever whitestar1.tga that is installed/selected on YOUR machine (stock, modified or mat manager).

Just as with the mods.

If you join a server and it has a mod that you do not have you can join the game, but you can't use the mod, only the players who have the mod installed get the benefit of using the particular mod.

I think that the only way this gets corrected is if a mod is created to change the whitestar1.tga and made available to everyone to download or a plane slot is created for the F4U-1 and it is assigned to the United States, USN or USMC and not Great Britain,RN for everyone to download.

Thanks, both of you for the responses. I have always had a problem with those ugly stock US markings on foreign aircraft (in this case a US a/c). I am interested in trying to figure out how this can be fixed community wide. Would a new aircraft slot have to be created to solve this? I do understand that everyone would have to have this installed to take advantage of it, but still, it would be nice to get this figured out for the whole community, rather than individually. No doubt there are a few other aircraft that would benefit from this as well.

And after all this....it's such a trivial problem, a little niggle really. There are so many other things to be tackeled. Big Grin

Hey Razor, there's a predone mod for this floating about, I'll see if I can find it for you, if not stand by, the texture guru Flushmeister is working on a stunner too. Or ff you can't wait, give the infamous mat manager a go, she's quite a nicely done programe (my only real dislike is the rather cluttered looking gui).

Mailman. I truely am glad you got it working, I didnt mean to be condesending... I'm sorry that my hackels raised a bit... I mearly wanted to help. Hope you find more here to increase your joy of our great sim. I am more than willing to help you with anything, just ask dude.

I think that it would be great if new slots could be made using the same flight models just a different plane name and country assignment. I don't know how difficult that would be to do this.

Not only could this be used for the F4U-1 Corsair (Corsair MkI), but also the Kittyhawk IA (P-40E) & Kittyhawk III P-40M) just to name a couple.
Then you could make a new default skin for the USAAF P-40E 7thFS49thFG, RAAF Kittyhawk IA No. 75 Sqn, USAAF P-40M 7thFS49thFG and RAAF Kittyhawk III No. 75 Sqn and they would all be appropriate for a mission on the New Guinea Map and could be used at the same time.
