PSD Skins??
#1

I just had a good idea!!! Would it be possible to save your skins in a .psd format (photoshop file) then have a mod so that it could read those files and show all the layers that are already showing, or just a certain layer with a certain name.... then as you fly the longer you fly for like maybe 10 mins or something it will show another layer which could be smoke dirt and stuff by basically turning on a layer named for example (dirt5mins) and so on...? Could this be possible?? I imagine it might be something like the damage model which as far as i know is basically like a damaged skin put over the skin you currently are using...

Nice idea, but I really really really doubt it's possible.

Well... my 2c, you wouldnt make it every skin, nor would a psd/xcf file be needed as a skin (i seriously doubt that you would get the game reading it like that) however...

Making a series of weathering .tga's that was time/conditions activated instead - like the damage .tga, perhaps would be a slightly easier and more realistic idea. Considering the game uses .tga's currently it would be already compatable, you could do it the same resolution as the damage .tga. And it wouldnt mean a dramatic increase in skin file size (considering its very rarely, in my experience, that I have a skin xcf (gimps PSD) which is anything smaller than 20mb)...

Getting the series of .tga to be applied over time however... that would be the trick...

This works with objects.

If theres a .mat file for the AC skin

Quote:obj.mat

[Layer0]
TextureName skin.txl
PaletteName
Frame 0.0
Quote:txl file

[ClassInfo]
ClassName TAnimatedTextureList

[General]
nFrames 3
Time 0.6
Loop 1

[QualityLow]
FPS 1
ImageScale 0.5

[QualityHigh]
FPS1
ImageScale 1.0

skin1.tga
skin2.tga
skin3.tga

[Generator]

The trick would be getting the timing right say 1 frame per 15 minutes, though it would play havoc with skin downloads . so even if possible could cause other issues.

i really want that mod to work, but the file size of photoshop is huge for one skin or file

Well it depends how we can actually make it possible, if it is indeed made possible it will probably be very different from what I've said but it's a base idea to work on...

If you merged all the layers that aren't to turn on at a certain time or something around that then i'm sure it would be a much smaller file as there would only be around 4 layers or so...
