Should we create new High Altitiude Flight Model ?
#1

It's not about changing existing FM. It's about new one.

What's your opinion ?

I think it would be easier to write a bunch of completely new AI behaviours... including tactical doctrines for each plane type and a commander who orders the squadron whole tactics... 8)
...not that that would be easy (still the AI files are beautiful).

Its been this long with the mod tools out. And it seems we are the central of the mod community. Since we are, this means you can monitor the mods that are introduced.

I haven't seen many people cheating using crazy FMs and DMs, and i think its because noone has made a program that makes it *easy* to mod.

I say go for it and change all the FMs that need changing. ONLY MAKE THEM TO EXACT THE REAL LIFE COUNTER PART.

The people who fly regular are not going to be wanting the Slot map or any of the new planes. So change the FMs and DM and make this sim what it should have been.

Mate.. There are no FM/DM changes to existing aircraft in the game and its non negotiable.. It's been kept that way for a very important reason..
The only changes to FM are to be for aircraft in new slots.. thats just the way it is.

Exactly... AAA's policy here is still the same.

No FM mods to current aircraft. Only new & cloned aircraft will be given this... Each aircraft's FM is modeled for all altitudes, the only way you can alter the high altitude performance is by editing that FM...

Unless you're talking about altering the games physics to a degree... but I still believe you wont alter the high alt perfomance without breaking the golden rule...

It was suggested in another thread to create a series of new slots for the aircraft, so we will still bewithin AAA's guidelines. I vote yes, because the Me262's FM majorly pisses me off at 30,000 feet.

Hmmm,you ever tried to fight a human 51 at 8k in 109?
Try it,and you'll see that there's no any lack of performance in the 51 and 47 up there! Wink

Gringo, do you ever tried fly Ta-152 750 km/h at 12500 meters ?
Try it and...we both know answer.

 Impossible. You'll get dozen overheatings before reaching even 10k!And if you reach even 11k,your engine will be nothing more than melting metal.

Well, some time ago I was flying P-47 on 10km with about 700km/h speed and it wasn't hard... however I almost couldn't turn... Plane behaved like with 250km/h speed... It's really annoying.

I think a lot of us are missing the point here: You can't improve high altitude performance by editing the individual aircraft flight models. You would have to write a new flight model engine.

Il-2's calculations break down above 25,000 feet or so. That is why there is a hard limit and it effects all flight models.

This limit can be breached ballistically though: If you use a rocket fighter at new maximum altitude, achieve high speed level flight, enter into a short dive and then pull up into a steep climb. If you do this once you can start a series of repeated dives and climbs (like a yo-yo) and keep building up energy. Eventually you start skipping off the atmosphere. One guy was able to climb to 299,000 feet this way.
