Spitfire Mk. I Small Problems
#1

When I put some different skins onto the Spitfire MK. I I noticed that from inside the cockpit the "nose" section that you see never changes...meaning that the skin you see from within the cockpit is different from what it really is. The Wings are no problems though, just the nose like so:

And as you can see THIS is the actual skin (Same screenshot)

Also on the second screenshot, notice the SHADOW of the plane still contains those large canons that the MK.I lacks. So the shadow is inaccurate as well.

... those are known issues ....

for shadow so far there is no solution ( it has something to do with alpha channel ...)

and for cockpit "skin" there is file skin1o.tga located in \MODS\SpitMk1\3do\cockpit\SpitfireMkI

if you want to change default one .... so far there is no way for that file to be changed with choosing exterior skins

hope that explains it ....

cheers

i dont worry about it too much, i mean who cares about a skin when you are fighting and also, just staring at the shadows can make nasty eye strains

Don't get me wrong, here. i honestly don't care much about these problems either. I was just hoping there was someway to fix the little details Smile

I'm fine with this its just something I noticed. 8)

... well , if you switch to mod version2.4 (only plane files.... not STD and buttons - ACinstaller) you'll get mkVb cockpit ( not openable though) but with no probs regarding skins ....

You can still skin the nose seperatly
look for
skin1o.tga
within the cockpit folder of the spit mk1

& regarding the shadows - i will be fixing that for the next release of the spit mk1

I'll say it again and again, you guys rock!

Am curious as always to learn more about the various aircraft modelled in il2 and the Spit Mark 1 is no exception. I find it interesting that aircraft production was never an exact science, individual variations within a given model could be at times dramatic, plus there were all the modifications and improvements introduced during production. This kind of stuff just fascinates me.

I'd like to know if I could, a little more about the kind of plane this Spit was modelled upon. Anybody want to give me a run down on the Spitfire Mark I? I know the basic stuff, the Merlin II engine and eight guns, but finer details escape me and vary in publication if mentioned at all. I have assumptions, but few enthusiasts where I live to discuss them with.

So what is the Mark I Spit's story. Two bladed fixed pitch props at first wasn't it, then the Rotol? Later the De Havilland? Self sealing tanks introduced...the Mark II? Reflector gun sights...autumn 1940?

C'mon Mr Jolly, with a signature like yours, you know you want to answer Big Grin

Hey Mr.Jolly. I know you can seperatley skin the nose but what I was trying to get at was to have the nose match the skin that you put on the plane, not have it constantly the same. Smile

You need to obtain a copy of "Spitfire The History" by Eric B. Morgan and Edward Shacklady ISBN 0 946219 10 9 That will answer all your questions and more.
