I had planned to make the same demand (modify the available G4M2E in a real bomber version) but Hogey surprised me. I shall post a list of mod suggestions in a near future but now I cannot wait longer for this one.

So, as for my future demands, I propose my help to the person who would like to make this adaptation. I do not have a lot of knowledge about modding but I could help for documentation and even make some skin.

I know it is always easier to ask than to act. So, I will provide all the help I could for this request and the following ones.

Bump !

@MrJolly:

How?

Hm...I would say, let's be patient...

We have too many whiches, and too less modders.

I think, Mr.Jolly's YES could mean, he set it on "ToDo"-List.

Good Luck !!

Great, cause this would give us a "new" a/c without lots of work.

He means that is a miss conception. It actually is alot of work to do this, and everyone thinks it is easy. It is not.

I think a better word usage would be "less work than a plane from scratch", but certainly not "no work at all"

I think that Slow means you don't realise the amount of work that is actually involved.
It is not a trivial mod to create a new slot aircraft, even for a single different loadout.

I don't know the technicals of coding a new loadout mod for IL-2, but I would make an educated guess that a new torpedo loadout would require at least the following:
  • flight model adjustment (plane with torpedo handles and performs differently from unloaded/bomb loaded),
aircraft mesh and/or torpedo object modifications (for the hardpoints, mounting the torpedo in accurate location and attitude),
    weapons loadout changes (obviously!),
and creation of a new aircraft slot.

None of these are going to be easy to get right even individually, so put together as a working mod they would be a fair amount of work for modders who already have a lot on their plates.

EDIT: I obviously spent too much time on this post, since Scharnhorst got in first!

Then I am sorry, that i used wrong wording!

The actual meaning was: "less work than a plane from scratch" !
Because of the similarity of the early Betty to the late Betty I thought, that it would be an "easy" task to add the loadout options from one a/c to the other.

As I really appreciate the hard work of the few, very dedicated people who are working on this mods, I did not want to put pressure on these people with my post.

Don't take it personally. I can see where it can be easily frustrating (to the modders). It is just that they tend to get alot of that, and it gets overbearing. You just happened to be the unlucky number that triggered some irritability.

Now you know, and I honestly think that you will try to not say something similar now that you know it can push buttons. So no harm, no foul. Big Grin

And in your defense, to people that honestly don't know, they tend to treat it as less of a big deal. (anybody would). So both sides are understandable. To anyone not familiar with how to edit code or work with it, all of these mods are like magic. But to those who can make sense out of it or bang their heads against their keyboards until they make this work ... well, they just have a diffferent perspective and they care more where others don't. It just happens.

Is this a "WIP" or "On hold" or "never started" ?
