New Me-109 slots?
#1

In light of some of the excellent mods by Hun in the Sun for the Me-109 Gustavs, I was wondering if it were possible that a couple of these might see the light of day as new slots.

The G-4 is such a wonderful addition but then I don't want to sacrifice the G-2. I realise the only difference between them is cosmetic, for all intents and purposes. They only have radio equipment changes. But still, the antennas look a little different and it's a nice bit of pedantry.

The second is actually brought up on behalf of Kurfurst who I've spoken with about the 109 modelling. The later G-6 ought to have an improved FM due to the clearance for extended use of the 1.42 ata emergency setting (1550PS at 2km) which isn't reflected in il2. There is also the issue of documented tests with cowling bulges versus flat G-2 cowling, and the wide cowling which show very little variation in performance, only a very slight decrease in top speed from the G-2 for the G-6 (about 8km/h from memory) cut in half by the streamlined wide cowling. There's not much we can do about that, Oleg chose to give the G-6 something like a 20km/h penalty for the bulged cowling and turned it into a slug over the MG-131.

However power to weight for climbing etc. would at least be vastly improved by a more correct late G-6, its 75PS of extra power offsetting the weight of the MG-131 (which hardly affected performance IRL anyway according to historical references). Adolf Galland for example had a pair of MG-131 fitted to his F-4 with a custom bulged cowling, and lost only a few km/h from top speed and virtually nothing from other performance like time to altitude.

So I was hoping for a new G-4 slot, and a new G-6 late slot with a fresh FM for extended use of the 1.42 ata setting (essentially, G-2 performance I guess, but somehow reflected in the engine modelling for the pilot). Hell, call it a late43 G-5 and skin the cockpit different or something.

Just some future plane slot/mod ideas.

Also, Bf109B, C, D, E-1, E-3 would be very interesting for Spanish Civil War and early WW2 missions like the campaign in Poland, the Battle of France and the BoB...

+1 for all the me109s and they were a big part of the plane history, so we should make them Big Grin

i think adding missiles to ju87 would be nice

some late war ones had like hvar type missiles, but not 100% sure,

would be cool though and finnally make some use out of the old junky ju

Isn't this thread about the 109?..

I agree with the late G6 some things could do with tweaking Smile

I also would love to see the G4 without replacing any existing other aircraft

The problem arouses because in IL-2 as we read in IL compare, Bf 109G-2 weights just 2838kg when Bf 109G-6 (Early and Late) weights 3171kg and Bf 109F-4 ....2920kg!!!In reality the weight of G-2s was a bit more than that of F-4s.I don't know why they made it like this.In any case I think that G-4s need a new FM.As far as I know were a bit heavier (and stronger structurally) basically they should be understood as early G-6s without the MG 131s, so the other way around as people usually think. IRL they should have had a top speed of ~645km/h*, and what is more essential, in a propable AAA FM their dive speed should go up to 850km/h, as in the G-6s and beyond.

Don't forget that RAF used gloss and semi-gloss paint!!

Thats great, but how would we use it?

ah yes...the buchon...ruining Battle of Britain movies since 1969...:-P but apart from that i agree with trooper...what real application does it have? what with it not being used in any real capacity during ww2 since spain was 'neutral' and all. granted it'd make more sense than those stupid '46 what-if planes...
